The Anime Raiders collection of Anime

I have moved the long-winded essay about anime to the end, which explains my collection and how I got it, to facilitate browsing a bit better. To go directly to the essay, click here.

I speak Japanese, so a lot of what I have is in the raw. I have divided the following into 4 parts: 1) Anime I still want and haven't found on my own  - and THESE titles I'm willing to talk trade about, usually only in Raw Japanese, 2) Raw Japanese Titles  - some are DVD, some are VHS, some direct from TV, 3) fansubs I have collected over the years, 4) commercial titles available in the U.S.  - for better or worse. I have also added two more sections: Japanese Dramas and Manga. If you see a series highlighted in RED it means that I'm watching that series now. If it is in a weird GREY I've already watched it (although I may be watching it again - I almost always have Kodomo no Omocha or Maison Ikkoku going  ^_^). If it is GREEN it's the next item on my list.

 Douzo....

1)      Stuff I want  - If you've got it, e-mail me at creed at animeraiders dot com. If you've got something you think I might be interested in and it's not on this list, e-mail me to discuss it. Keep in mind I'll probably want it in Raw Japanese, no subtitles, although I am open to exceptions. Also keep in mind that I live in the U.S., in San Francisco, so trades to certain countries can be problematic. And as stated before, I'm not a fansubber - you won't get fancy packaging or labels from me, and I have no interest in SVHS. This first list is in order of preference. All others are alphabetical

One 2 - Sequel to One, which I have

Tsuyoshi-kun Shikkari Shirou! (Also known as Ganbatte Tsuyoshi-kun! and Hang in there Tsuyoshi!)  - This one isn't coming to the U.S. anytime soon. Anybody out there have it?

Demon City Shinjuku

Darkside Blues

2)      Raw Japanese - Anything you see incomplete here I'm collecting on my own already

1,000 Nen Jou Ou (aka Queen Millennia) 42 episodes, 1 movie

11eyes - 12 episodes, plus a DVD only episode - a strange little show about a young man with a damaged eye who might be the reincarnation of an ancient fighter and his attempts to rescue the princess. The only problem is that he might be the bad guy,. and he doesn't know it...

15-nin to NHK 15 very short pieces of animation

3X3 Eyes  - 7 episodes  - As a general rule I don't care for horror, but this is one of two that I especially like. The Manga is incredible, and I recommend it to anyone who has a strong enough command of the language. The Manga runs 40 volumes!

8 Gatsu no Symphony - Shibuys 2002-2003 - movie

A Channel - 12 episodes This is the tale of three 2nd year high school girls and their friend who is a year behind them - a tiny little thing but don't underestimate her or try to get in the way between her and her beloved Senpai...

A Channel + Smile OAV

A Channel+ Smile - an OAV of the A Channel series.

A Heat for all seasons - 3 episodes (hentai)

Agatha Christie no Meitantei Poirot to Marple 39 episodes

Agent Aika  - 4 OAVs - more panty shots per minute than any anime I've ever seen.

Ah! My Goddess Movie  - great film. Great music, which is part of the point

Ah! My Goddess OVAs  - These are the 5 OVAs that most people have already seen and are commercially available in the U.S.

Ah! My Goddess TV  - these are 48 short cartoons involving the mini-goddesses, now available in the U.S. Don't look for Morisato-kun though. The foil in this series is a rat named Gen-chan, who also appears in little shorts in the Manga. There is one episode called 'Rainy Day - that has no dialogue, and is of Oscar caliber. I sent a tape of it to Spike & Mike's offices but never heard back.

Ai My Me! Strawberry Eggs!  - 13 Episodes  - If you order this series from Japan, get volume 5 with the box. You won't regret it. This is my current new favorite - the ending is AMAZING!!!!!! Lots and lots of extras on the Japanese DVDs. There's a U.S. release and the advertising campaign is very misleading. The story has a lot more heart to it than the ads suggest.

Ai Yori Aoshi  - 24 episodes

Ai Yori Aoshi Enioshi - 12 more episodes

AIKa R-16 Virgin Missions - 3 OAVs - a sort of prequel to Agent AIKa, from before she got the golden bustier and was just a normal high school girl whose father runs a salvage operation. Fun, very ecchi.

Akazukin Chacha - 74 episodes

Aki Sora 2 OAVs

Allison to Lillia 26 episodes this is a great and simple anime following two generations of people and how they each changed their world - the first to stop a war, the second to prevent one. A fantastic anime.

Alps no Shoujo Heidi - 52 episodes

Amaenaideyo! - 12 episodes, 1 special

Amaenaideyo - Katsu!! - 12 episodes

Aneimo - 2 OAVS this is basically a porn video based on the video game of the same name

Angel Beats! 13 episodes, DVD extra epilogue - What would you do if you suddenly woke up with no memory, on the grounds of a high school campus, and were told that you were dead? That you and a few others are effectively stuck in a limbo that is built to resemble a high school simulation, with a bunch on NPCs who don't realize this, and an angel who is trying to kill you all? This surprising entry comes from KEY studio, and is truly very good.

Angel Links - 13 episodes a new story set in the world of Outlaw Star

Angelic Layer - 26 episodes. Fun series from the Evil Geniuses of Cute, a.k.a. Clamp. This one is a ton of fun, and contrary to expectations, went in a direction the Manga did not. Very uplifting, with a couple of unexpected twists. Nice work, Clamp!

Angelium - 2 OAVs

Angel Heart 51 episodes

Angel Sanctuary - 3 OAVs

Anmitsu Hime - 51 episodes

Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Boku-tachi ha Mada Shiranai 11 episodes - In one of the best anime series to come along in years, this is the tale of 6 friends - 3 boys and three girls. When they were young one of the girls (named Minma) died and one of the boys (Jinta) suffered a nervous breakdown. It's now several years later and most of the old gang have gotten on with their lives and grown apart, save for Jinta - who still sees visions of young Minma and actually interacts with her. Jinta is trying to reintegrate to the world, but because Minma is still part of his life he knows he can't. One by one, Jinta's old friends begin to rally around him to try and help him recover - but how can he when he insists that Minma, although dead, is still there? This is a series you cannot miss.

Ano Natsu de Matteru - 12 episodes. This is an amazing series about a young boy and filmmaker who is accidentally killed by a crashing spaceship. The occupant of the spaceship revives him and becomes a part of his life, all the while searching for something special. In the interim, while no one is aware of her alien origins, they begin to fall in love.

Another - 12 episodes, episode 0 OAV A young man transfers to a high school in the country after a long illness but doesn't realize at first that the class he has joined is cursed, and that people are getting killed. Everyone blames a young girl with one eye, but she's the only friend he's made so far...

Antique Bakery 12 episodes

Antique Heart - OAV - pretty simple little ghost story

Ao no Exorcist 25 episodesA young man discovers that he is the span of Satan, and this has been hidden by the priest who has raised him and his own twin brother, who apparently doesn't have Satan's blood in him. But after the forces of darkness kill the man who raised him, This span of Satan decides to become an exorcist, so that he can kill him himself... The manga is still ongoing, so I hope there is a second series. This one was goo.

Ao no Kaori - OAV

Aoi Hana 11 episodes - boy do I wish this one had been longer. This is the tale of two old friends who are reunited after one moves back with her family to her old hometown for high school, the one who has just moved is a bit of a crybaby while her old friend if the outgoing type. This is a nice slice of life story as the crybaby discovers a truth about herself and her friendships.

Amagami SS 26 episodes - a great series about a young man and the different turns he can take that bring different women into his life...

Appleseed 2004 (movie)

Aquarian Age - Sign for Evolution 13 episodes

Aquarion Evol 26 episodes a side story/spin-off/sequel to Sousei no Aquarion

Arakawa Under the Bridge 13 episodes - this is a truly strange one, about a man who comes to live under a bridge with a group of weirdoes after a girl there saves his life and he feels obligated to repay her. Truly strange, and very very funny.

Arakawa Under the Bridge x Bridge 13 more episodes

Arc The Lad  - 26 episodes

Area no Kishi 37 episodes Kakeru is the younger brother of a soccer star and has some talent himself, but he gave it up to help manage his brother (which his brother isn't happy about). Then two events change everything - an old friend returns from living abroad, and an accident that nearly kills Kakeru and does kill his older brother, when results in his heart transplanted into Kakeru. To honor his memory, Kakeru returns to playing soccer, but with his brother's heart in his chest there are complications no one anticipated...

Argento Soma - 25 episodes and an OAV. A young man is simply trying to give his girl a birthday present, while being a student at a military complex in Montana. But the girl is killed when an experiment by one of her professors is interrupted by the military, and he winds up the only survivor, horribly disfigured. The robot they were building escapes. Then a 13-year old girl named Harriet comes to be in control of the robot (called "Frank", Yousei-kun (Japanese for fairy or elf - Harriet calls it that), or Extra-1, depending on who is talking), thinking it will reunite her with her dead parents. All the while the military complex wants to use the robot to defend earth against a re-appearance of invading aliens. Then a mysterious stranger appears at the hospital bed of the injured man and offers him a way in to defeat the monster. His name is changed to Soma and he is inserted into the military unit whose job it is to protect the Earth. Or is he hallucinating the whole thing? Hints are continuously dropped suggesting so. And this is only the first 3 episodes! Then it goes in directions not planned for. The show is 24 episodes, the OAV (taking place 6 years later) and then an extra episode that happens sometime in between. Well worth the time.

Aria the Animation - 13 episodes - The future: Mars has been turned into a planet of water. So let's follow the life of a young emmigre who wants to be a gondola pilot! Pretty good show.

Aria the Natural 26 episodes, plus a special sequel to ARIA the ANIMATION

Aria the OVA - ARIETTA a simple one-shot that furthers the story yet again.

ARIA the Origination - 14 episodes and now the finale, that wraps up the whole 53 episode story arc from start to finish. Well worth the ride.

Armitage III - Dual Matrix - New OAV series that picks up 6 years after the first left off. No, I DO NOT have the version with Juliette Lewis.

Arujuna - Chikyuu Shoujou (Earth Girl)

Asatte no Houkou – 12 episodes a great little title about a little girl and a grown woman caught up in a wish that changes both of their lives. The pace is slow, but the payoff is fantastic.

Ashite e Free Kick 52 episodes

Ashita no Nadja 50 episodes

Astarotte no Omocha! 12 episodes This is the story of a young succubus who actually doesn't like men, but needs to be a succubus in order to maintain her health, and eventually the kingdom she will inherit from her mother. After accidentally transporting herself to the human world, one of her assistants offers a young man a job as her butler, her toy, and eventually more...

Asu no Yoichi - 12 episodes Yoichi is a young Samurai who has been sent by his father to go live with a friend, who is now absent and whose 4 daughters have taken over his doujo. And despite Yoichi's mannerisms and speech, this is set in the present day. Fun little comedy.

Asura Cryin' - 13 episodes - the strange tale of a young man who survives a plane crash and his sister doesn't, only his sister becomes a ghost that follows him everywhere. And then thanks to a device hidden by his older brother, becomes a mechanical fighting machine...

Asura Cryin' 2 - 13 episodes - continuing the story and taking a much darker tone, we finally find out what happened to the young man's brother that started all of this mess - and the reason that many of these people are even involved.

Attack No. 1 104 episodes

Aura Bancho Psychic Academy - 24 short little episodes, each about 7 minutes, about a boy who transfers to the Psychic Academy thinking he has no powers - but everyone else believes he may be the strongest Psychic ever. Cute. And despite a copious amount of skin it isn't a Hentai title. I rather enjoyed it.

Avenger - 13 episodes

Ayakashi 12 episodes - there are spirits called Ayakashi that various people can control due to a freak snow storm several years ago. Why is everyone interested in the Ayakashi one young man can control - even though he doesn't know anything about it?

Ayashi no Ceres  - 26 episodes - overall disappointing. A lot of the plot from the Manga has been removed.

Azuki-chan 117 episodes, 1 movie

Azumanga Daiou - Episodes 1-26

B Gata H Kei 12 episodes - this surprisingly touching and funny anime is the tale of a girl desperate to lose her virginity so that she can begin to conquer every boy she meets - but is too scared to get past that first one despite the fact that she's met him and is zeroing in - and may be developing feelings for him.

Baby Love OAV

Baccano! 16 episodes - how do I describe this one? This is an anime told in non-liner fashion about a group of gangsters who can't be killed by ordinary means, and a number of others who interact in their lives in the early 1930s. That sentence doesn't really do it justice though. This series is heckafun.

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu - 13 episodes - based on a series of novels, this decidedly strange show is about a high school where the various levels, from the F students to the A students, can challenge each other by summoning avatars and moving up a level to better classrooms and better teachers. This is the story of the worst of the worst, who have a ringer in their midst...

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu Matsuri - 2 OAVs

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu II - 14 episodes. Just continuing the story.

Bakemonogatari 16 episodes (okay, 15 and a re-cap) Meet Araragi-kun, a young man with a complex about saving the girl. Somehow the ones who need saving gravitate to him, whether they're possessed, half-monsters, or even dead, somehow they find him. Sometimes they don't even know they need saving. And Araragi-kun is uniquely suited to come to the rescue, having been bitten by a vampire and thus being very hard to kill. One one of these girls (perhaps the most tsundere girl ever in anime) has decided to become his girlfriend. This one's hells fun.

Bakuman 25 episodes This is the tale of a young man whose uncle was a manga-ka, but committed suicide several years ago after a series of failures. The young man is drawn into the game himself when he teams up with a classmate who likes his art style, and the desire to impress a girl in his class who is studying to be a voice actress - and to whom he accidentally proposes to. Great story work from the creator of Hikaru no Go and Death Note. Season 2 will start Summer of 2011

Bakuman II 25 more episodes The continuation. There will be a 3rd season as well in Fall 2012

Bakuretsu Tenshi 26 episodes

Bakuretsu Tenshi Infinity - movie

Bamboo Blade 26 episodes

Bartender 11 episodes – simple little short anime about bartenders and the drinks they make. Includes some interesting recipes. I actually tried the “Black Velvet”

Battle Angel - OAV Movie

Ben-Tou 12 episodes A truly unique anime about a town where battles are held to determine who gets to take home the half-price bentou specials. It's funny and fun.

Bible Black - This one's Hentai - and it's just plain sick. Not recommended. I only have the first volume, and won't be getting the second.

Birth - Movie

Binbougami ga! 13 episodes

Binbou Shimai Monogatari 10 episodes - a cute, quick, short series about two young sisters living on their own. Their mother died with the birth of the younger sister, and the father ran away to escape from gambling debts. They're aged 14 and 7 respectively, living on their own. It's a simple and nice little story.

Black Blood Brothers 12 episodes – Yeah, yeah, yeah, I could tell you all about the fight between vampires and all that, but this one’s actually fairly light and simple.

Black Cat 23 episodes, plus an extra

Black Heaven  - 13 episodes - . Dude! Crank It Up! This one is better known in Japan as Kaichou Ouji - the job title (and name) of the lead Character, Tanaka Ouji. He used to be a rock guitar God, but now he's a Salaryman with a wife and a kid. And for some reason, his guitar playing is the only thing saving Earth from an invasion. Weird, but fun - especially the trio of girls who make trouble in every episode. I strongly recommend watching this one with some sake in your glass.

Black Lagoon 12 episodes

Black Lagoon the Second Barrage – 12 more episodes

Black Lagoon Roberta's Blood Trail - 5 OAVs (i.e. the third season)

Black Rock Shooter - Movie The tale of two school girls who become unlikely friends - which is a good thing as one suddenly goes missing and the other refuses to believe that she's dead, and discovers that she's been sucked into another dimension...

Black Rock Shooter TV - 8 episodes Taking the story from the movie and turning it into a TV series means adding more girls in the other world, and some crossover. Pretty good stuff.

Bleach 366 episodes, 4 movies (Memories of Nobody, Diamond Dust Rebellion - Mou Hitotsu no Hyourinmaru, Fade to Black, The Hell Verse)

Blood+ 50 episodes this one is hecka fun. A girl named Saiya is kinda sickly and requires blood transfusions. She lives with her father and two brothers and run a small restaurant in Okinawa. But Saiya is not who she seems, although she doesn't yet remember it. She's actually a vampire hunter, several centuries old. She just needs to remember. And once she does, what happens to her family? This one's very deep and has an onion full of layers. great stuff.

Blood-C 12 episodes And now the evil geniuses of cute that are better known as CLAMP do their own take on the story of Saya. The series ends with one hell of a cliffhanger, to be resolved in a movie due to be released in 2012.

Blue Drop - 13 episodes I nearly passed on this one, until I ran into the manga. About a young girl attending a public school for the first time and her roommate, who may actually be the advance of an invading alien army.

Blue Flames - OAV

Blue Gender - 26 episodes

Blue Seed - 26 episodes (VHS) - I've been  long time fan of 3 X 3 eyes, so now I'm finally catching up to some of his earlier work. Cool stuff.

Blue Seed Beyond - 3 OAVs

Blue Submarine No. 6  - 4 OAVs

Boku ha Tomodachi ga Sukunai 12 episodes, 1 OAV, Add-on Disc This is a great one about a boy who is half-Japanese whose hair is naturally the same color as those currently popular in gangs. He's not like that at all, but as a result people think he's a violent thug and it's hard for him to make friends. He then discovers that the smartest girl in the school also has no friends and the two of them put together a club whose sole purpose is to try and make friends. It's a pity that the first person to also join in is someone who rubs the girl the wrong way, and that there may be a whole hidden agenda going on as well...

Boku no Marie - 3 OAVs

Bokura ga Ita 26 episodes

Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuru-chan 8 episodes - Easily the most violent anime I have ever seen, and one of the funniest. I have this in both the original TV release and the DVD version.

Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuru-chan 2 4 OAVs - a quick sequel series.

Boogiepop Phantom

Boundry Between Dream and Reality - Hentai series with a funky unreality twist. Intriguing story, terrible animation. With a little development it could have been very good.

Bounen no Xam'd - 26 episodes this is the complicated story about a young man turned into a monster in order to help restore the memory of an emperor who has been in stasis for 1000 years - and boy does that description not do it justice. Well worth the time. This was the first major anime to be shown on the Playstation3 network.

Boys Be  - 13 episodes - a really cute set of stories set in high school life.

Brave Story – Movie

Busou Shinki Moon Angel movie - this is a great short that could easily be expanded into a series about toys that are used in battles that are also personal robots, and how the next generation of them is being built for somewhat more sinister purposes. One of them escapes and gets her memory wiped, and winds up at the toy of a young boy - but occasionally her violent past flashes back to her...

Busou Shinki - 12 episodes and then it gets turned into a series!

Buttobi CPU  - 3 OAVs

Buzzer Beater 13 episodes

Buzzer Beater 2007 - 13 episodes

Byousoku 5 Centimeter

[C] 11 episodes A young college student short on cash gets invited into a secret world of money lending and fighting and discovers that the world financial markets and even reality are controlled by a secret system that seems to be intent on wiping Japan off the map of the world...

C3 12 episodes - This is the story of a high school boy who has had delivered to him by his father a young girl who happens to be a cube holding hundreds of mystical weapons - and he has been tasked with trying to get her to fit in to normal society - something he's done before. The problem is that there are forces in the world that want this cube's power, and the girl it is pretending to be can be a bit of a hothead...

Campione! 13 episodes

Canaan 13 episodes Maria is a photographer on her first overseas assignment to Hong Kong, and she's about to get wrapped up in a tale of bio-terrorism, political intrigue, assassinations, and shadowy government figures, because a) she's there when it happens and b) one of the assassins is a friend of hers named Canaan - a girl with lightning reflexes working for what might be the CIA...

Candy Boy - short feature

Candy Boy - 7 episodes distributed on a cell phone network. Yes, a cell phone network. A pretty good anime actually, about two sisters living together and going to high school.

Candy Candy - 115 episodes

Canvas 2 - Nijiiro no Sketch - 24 episodes

Captain Harlock - 42 episodes, 1 movie

Captain Harlock SSX - 22 episodes

Card Captor Sakura - 70 episodes and 2 movies - Boy, do I love this show! My copy is from the original VHS release, which includes extras at the end of each show talking about fashion and the various costumes.

Carnival Phantasm 12 OAVs, plus Fate/Prototype Sort of a side effot of comedic shorts related to Fate/Stay Night

Catblue: Dynamite – Okay now… a Japanese anime. In English. Subtitled in Japanese. About a cat transformed into a human who can talk to ghosts… it was pretty good.

Catgirl Nuku Nuku TV - 14 episodes

Cat's Eye  - 73 episodes - kind of a Charlie's Angels in reverse, with a fairly deep backstory. They're three sisters (the middle one is Hitomi - same name as my daughter) who steal various things while running a coffee shop called "Cats Eye", all to find their mysterious and missing father. Fun series.

Chi's Sweet Home - 104 episodes, and Chi's Sweet News - 26 episodes, 1 OAV - this series ran M-F with 4 episodes of "Home" and then 1 episode of "News" every week for a year.

Chi's Sweet Home - Atarashi Ouchi - 104 more episodes The family moved, and so there are new adventures to be had!

Chaos; Head - 12 episodes about as unlikely an anime as you could ever see, about a reclusive young man who can barely even talk who suddenly finds himself first embroiled in a murder, then magical girls, and then shifts in reality that he may actually be in control of. Great and all too short show.

Chihayafuru 25 episodes This is the story of a teenaged girl named Chihaya, whose older sister is a a famous model and is quite pretty herself, but she doesn't care about that. She is obsessed with playing the Japanese card game Karuta, along with her childhood friend. There was also a third friend, a real champion of the game, but he moved away. Now she is a high ranking player herself, and she's trying to found a team at her local school so that she and her friends can compete in the national competitions and that she herself can become "Queen". But there are a number of obstacles in her way, including her own friends, her single-minded pursuit of her goal, her old friend who has since left the game, and the current "Queen". You would think that an anime about a card game that itself relies on historical knowledge and memorization skills wouold get dull quickly but this anime, based on a fascinating manga, really pulls you in. I really hope there is a season 2.

Chinpui - 56 episodes (well, actually 112), 1 movie

Chobits - 24 episodes - Just like the Manga, it starts out slow and pedantic, but then really picks up steam. The plot runs almost exactly as the Manga did, but without the obvious tie-in to Angelic Layer that the Manga did. Oh, it's still there, but it's much more subtle. Very good series.

Chocolate Underground - 13 episodes - a quick series about a government that bans chocolate and the people who fight back. The whole thing runs an hour.

Chocotto Sister 24 episodes

Cho Gals! Kotubuki Ran - 24 episodes

Chuu Bra - 12 episodes - this is the tale of a girl with a fascination about underwear who forms an underwear club at her school.

Clannad 23 episodes, 1 movie Another great slice of life anime from the people who gave us Air and Kanon. I'm collecting the wide-screen version. This one freakin' rocks.

Clannad After Story 24 episodes, one DVD special episode the follow-up to Clannad, which takes the story from where the previous one left off and covers the next several years. Possibly one of the best anime shows ever done.

Class Reunion – Dousoukai – 4 OAVs

Claymore 26 episodes Have demons attacking your city? Call on the Claymore Girls! 1/2 human, half demon, they fight for you for a fee. Actually, it's a pretty serious anime, following one Claymore named "Claire", who has some surprising secrets of her own, and the young man she befriends while attempting to save his villiage.

Cleopatra - movie

Clover - a short from the Same guys who did X and Card Captor Sakura

Cluster Edge - 25 episodes

Code Geass - Lelouch of the Rebellion - Black Rebellion

Code Geass - Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 25 more episodes

Code-E - 12 episodes. A good title about a girl who can generate Electrical fields. However, the last episode is a disaster

Comic Party  - 13 episodes  - not that good really, other than a great intro to the first episode and lots of in-jokes that reference 'To Heart - (which is a great title). It gets interesting towards the end. My copy has tons of extras, including cast and crew interviews, games, and extra animation.

Colorful - movie This is a truly simple but great tale of an unnamed protagonist who at the very beginning of the movie has died and is ambivalent about what happens next, when he is given the chance to take over the body of a boy who has committed suicide - which at first he doesn't want. However, he is told to give it 6 months, and he starts to unravel the mystery of why a young talented artist would suddenly kill himself...

Comet-san 43 episodes

Comic Party Revolution - 13 more episodes

Cool Cool Bye - OAV

Cosplay Complex

Cowboy Bebop  - 26 episodes and 1 movie - I finally started watching the copy I bought 2 years ago and it appears my copy is a Chinese bootleg from the original Japanese. I won't be trading it so don't ask. Still, pretty damned good. Especially the music (I'm a fan of Konno Yoko). I have a DVD player that can turn the subtitles off, so I can still watch it. I recommend watching the movie before you watch episode 23.

Coyote Ragtime Show - 12 episodes This one was a lot of fun about chasing down a scoundrel of a bank robber and his mission to help the daughter of his old partner. It was way too short.

Cream Lemon - 36 episodes

Cream Lemon New Generation - 4 OAVs

Cream Lemon Lemon Angel - 52 short episodes

Creamy Mami  - 52 episodes, 1 OVA, 1 Movie  - This is the first Shoujo/Mahou title I ever collected, and it's still my favorite. I wrote a review of it for a magazine a few years ago. I even have a VCD collection of the first 10 episodes in CHINESE

Crest of Stars - 13 episodes, 1 OAV, 1 movie - Sequel to Sekai no Senki

Daa! Daa! Daa!  - 78 episodes. Take a young girl and transplant her at a distant relative's temple because her parents are working for NASA in the U.S. Then have the man who runs the temple get a call from the Dali Lama to study with him, leaving his teenage son. Now toss in an abandoned baby from outer space, and its baby-sitting shape-shifting pet. Fun ensues. Great show. (Special thanks to Aya the Vampire Slayer for finding me the last three episodes!) I have this in VHS and digital formats.

Da Capo II - 13 episodes

Da Capo II Second Season - 13 more episodes

Da Cafo If - 2 OAVs

Daft Punk & Matsumoto Reiji's Interstella 5555. Wow. Take an album by Daft Punk and turn it over to the creator of Galaxy Express 999 and countless other classics, and let him animate a story over the album. He creates a story about a group of alien musicians kidnapped and forced into disguises that make them look human in order to form a HUMAN rock band, when all they want is to go home. Awesome doesn't even begin to describe it.

Dai Mahou Touge 8 episodes - a cute magical girl short series about a homicidal maniac. ^_^

Dakara Boku ha, H ga Dekinai 13 episodes

Dance in the Vampire Bund - 13 episodes - in a storyline that is somewhat tangental to the manga this is the tale of a vampire princess named Mina in the body of a young girl and her werewolf guardian named Akira, who at first has no memory of her but in reality has a past with her and a future, some of which gets explored when she pays off the national debt of Japan in exchange for a homeland for the vampires.

Daphne in the Brilliant Blue 9-24 (1-8 is in the subtitled section)

Darker Than Black 25 episodes, plus 1 DVD only episode I tend to collect almost everything that Kanno Yoko does the music for, and this one is about a group of psychics led by one who can produce electric shocks hunting other people with various paranormal abilities. Great show.

Darker Than Black 2 - Ryuusei no Gemini - 12 episodes - the hero of the first series is back, this time looking to protect the young child of a Russian scientist because of powers he gained the night everything went to hell in the last series. Only he finds himself protecting someone else who might be even more important, that everyone believes is that young child...

Deadman Wonderland - 12 episodes, 1 OAD A young man is framed for a horrific mass murder in order to put him in an amusement park for people sentenced to death - and then he discovers that there is something moe sinister behind it and that he has a power to cause violence in his actual blood. The first of what I expect to be at least 3 series.

Demshitta! Powerpuff Girls Z 52 episodes Yes, the anime version of PPG! It actually is a lot of fun.

Dennou Coil - a Circle of Children 26 episodes, a special and a couple of review episodes - this one is hella fun, about a group of kids and their glasses (which are actually computer screens) who live in a virtual world that includes virtual pets, their homework, and viruses. Can they find the "Meta-bug" that may hold the secret to the world behind the scenes? And why does one of them want to find this information so desperately that she's had her body modified? It's animated in the style of Studio Ghibli works.

Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko - 13 episodes A young man moves to live with his aunt and discovers that he has a cousin - a truly strange cousin who disappeared when she was younger and when she turned up floating out at sea because a recluse who wraps herself in a futon. Double-J 11 episodes done entirely in flash animation, this is a collection of shorts about a group of high school students in the "maker" club, who in fact will do anything that involves making other things, from pencils to glassware to manga.

Doukyuusei  - 4 OAVs

Doukyuusei 2 Special - Sotsugyousei (The Graduate)  - 3 OAVs - mostly just a simple love story with lots of skin showing. No real sex so it isn't Hentai per se. Not a bad little story actually.

Dragonaut - The Resonance 26 episodes a fun anime about a group of people and the dragons/space creatures they are attached to, and the romance between two of them

Dragon Crisis! 12 episodes This is the tale of a young high school boy and the fact that he has a sort of connection with one of the rare living dragons, who is seen publicly as a small girl, and between the two of them make for a powerful weapon...

DRRR!! 24 episodes - this is the odd tale of three classmates, two of whom run rival gangs and the third is a murdering psychopath. No wait, it's the tale of a headless biker chick searching for her head and dispensing justice along the way. No wait, it's the tale of the man who actually controls Akihabara. No wait, it's about a psychopath searching for his long lost girlfriend's head. No wait, it's the tale of a group of ex gang members who are now dispensing Otaku advice. No wait! It's about a Russian Sushi restaurant! No wait... You just have to watch it...

Druaga no To - The Aegis of Urik 12 episodes - this one was fun - about a young warrior always in the shadow of his brother who comes into his own leading a party on the same adventure his brother is. It starts out very silly and has its comedic moments, but the turns deadly serious in the last few episodes, and ends with a cliffhanger that leaves you frustrated and waiting for the sequel to come out in 2009.

Druaga no To - the Sword of Urik - 12 episodes - a year later this one pickes up where the previous series left off, and finally begins to explain just what the hell happened at the end of the first series, eventually wrapping it all up.

DVINE/LUV - 4 OAVs, Hentai. Here's an unusual Hentai - it has a PLOT!!!!!! ^_^ It's the touching tale of a young adventurer and how he conquers 7 different women. Oh, and there's some stuff about a princess with a disease, the search for a secret elixir, lots of bad D&D stuff, and a weird mix of modern and ancient technology.

Ebiten - Kouritsu Ebi Suwaka Koukou Tenmonbu 11 episodes (episote 11 came later)

ef - a tale of memories - 12 episodes Imagine trying to live your life when you can only remember the past 13 hours. Great show.

Eiji - OAV

Eikyuu Alice Rondo - 12 episodes

El - Strange little Hentai title where the good guys are more sadistic than the bad guys, and the bad guys are the kind who if your daughter brought one home you'd stab him with a steak knife - interesting V.R. twist towards the end though

El Cazador de la Bruja 26 episodes - a road trip story about a bounty hunter and the young girl with mysterious powers she's assigned to find and then protect, from the people who gave us Noir. Not bad.

Excel Saga - 26 episodes This is actually a Chinese sub, but as I don't read Chinese it might as well be raw.

Ex-D  - 6 OAVs

Fancy Lala  - 26 episodes  - not quite as cute as Creamy Mami, but it's still good. The final 2 episodes are surprisingly powerful, and the ending comes out of nowhere and is wonderful.

Fashion Lala - Harborlight Story - OAV  Features the same magical creatures as Fancy Lala, and a girl named Miho, but the overall story is somewhat darker. Evil aunt and cruel girls and all that. Okay, confession - technically, this is the fansub by Anime Miners, and it's a pretty good DVD. However, I can turn the subtitles off and therefore have put it in this list.

Fate/Stay Night - 24 episodes This is the famous anime about a young man who has the ability so see how machines work and fix them, but only has a base hint of what this power actually means, who finds himself in a battle of good versus evil when he discovers that he has a servant called "Saber", a beautiful woman who can carry the sword Excalibur and may have been involved in a battle that nearly killed him 10 years prior. Is starts out slow, but builds pretty well into an amazing climax and finish.

Fate/Stay Night - Unlimited Blade Works - movie

Fate/Zero 25 episodes If you've seen Fate/Stay Night you know that there was a false start to the final battle that took place 12 years before the events in Fate/Stay Night. This is that story.

Fight Ippatsu! Juuden-chan 12 episodes This is a very ecchi series about a group of sexy girls who live in a slightly parallel dimension, who are responsible for recharging the batteries of people who are feeling depressed, and one specific one who is a bit of a screw up. Oh, and the one person in all of the real world who can see them.

Fighting Beauty Wulong 25 episodes

Into this world we are introduced to Crane, a young man living alone but raised by dopplegangers of his real parents, who stumbles into a plot to bring down the virtual world by accidentally rescuing the one person who can restore it all...

Franz Kafka's A Country Doctor OAV

Freedom 7 OAVs - this is a series of OAVs from the creator of AKIRA, about a group of young men living (along with the entire Human Race) who don't have much to do - race bikes and generally get into trouble and so forth. When two of them wind up on a punishment detail to pick up garbage on the surface of the moon, they discover that the Earth, long believed to be barren, may have life after all... A great OAV series.

Freezing (TV Version) 12 episodes This is the tale of a young man whose older sister was a great fighter against genetically modified aliens but died in the cause - and whose implants were in turn put into another student - one who the boy decides to partner with despite the fact that she has some very serious mental scars... There were 2 TV versions, on at a 4x3 ratio with the nudity left intact and one at 16x9 that was heavily censored. This is the 4x3 ratio version.

Fresh Precure 50 episodes the 6th Pretty Cure Series!

Fruits Basket - 26 episodes.  - Stays true to the Manga for 24 episodes, and then smacks you with one incredible emotional punch for the last two episodes. Very, very, very good. The Japanese DVDs have the commercials and some of them are VERY funny. The first anime company I consulted for had me try to buy this series.

Fruits Cup - 2 episodes (hentai)

Full Metal Alchimest Extras there's going to be a season two!!! I have season one in the fansubs.

Fushigi Yuugi Eikouden - 3 OAVS - Take the story ahead a few years, to the wedding of Taka and Miaka, with Miaka several months pregnant. Why is Taka suddenly back in the book again? Why is the new Suzaku no Miko so jealous of Miaka? Good stuff here. Great followup.

Futakoi Alternative 13 episodes - take the original (in fansubs) and cross it with Gunslinger Girl. Cool.

Futari Etchi! (Step Up Love Story) - 4 OAVs - Sweet little Hentai about two virgins who get married and haven't a clue what they're doing... but manage to get there anyway...and it's not hardcore! This title also has the distinction of the most interesting warning screen I've ever seen (you know "keep the lights on and don't sit to close to the TV..."). For the first OAV the flash on a cell-phone e-mail. On the second they're on a billboard scroll outside a hotel. I rather enjoyed this one.

Futarigurashi 36 episodes

Future Boy Conan (Mirai Shounan Conan) 26 episodes, 1 movie

G On Riders 14 episodes

G9 - OAV

Gake no Ue no Ponyo - Movie - the is the 2009 effort by Studio Ghibli, and it's a great movie about a little goldfish who wants to become a little girl after falling for a little boy named Sousuke, who accidentally throws the world out of balance in her attempt to become human...

Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight! 12 episodes, 1 OAV - this was a fun little short about 5 girls in high school in the year 2035.

Galaxy Express 999 113 espiodes - one of the all-time classics of anime, from the creator of Spaceship Yamato.

Galaxy Railways (Express) II 24 episodes

Gall Force, Gall Force Rea

Galley Fake 37 episodes

The Game  - another Hentai about training girls for a pleasure boat. Kind of weak, actually.

Gankutsuo - Count of Monte Cristo 13-24 (end) previous episodes are in the fansubs section

Garasu no Kamen (2005) 51 episodes - damned fine re-working of one of the classics. If you look further down you’ll see “Mask of Glass”, a 37 episode series from the 1980s that is the same story, but stopped long before the end of the series. The manga is still in progress and I’ve heard rumors that this series will go to the very end.

Garei Zero - 12 episodes, DVD extras

Gatekeepers - 24 episodes - I really don't know anything about it, but it looks neat.

Gatekeepers 21 - 6OAVs

Gedo Senki Tales from Earthsea - Movie

Gene Shaft - 13 episodes

Genmu Senki Leda - movie

Genmukan - some hentai

Genshiken - 12 episodes

Genshiken 2 - 12 more episodes

Getsumento Heiki Miina - 11 episodes - How do I explain this one? It's about a high school girl who is a sportscaster by day and a superhero by night, powered by carrots who gets her orders from a secret alien base on the moon. Simple right? It's actually based on a part of the live action comedy Densha Otoko.

Getsumento Heiki Miina EX 2 episodes these are the two episodes of the original series that were never aired.

神霊狩/GHOST HOUND 22 episodes Boy, how do I even begin to explain this one? It is about a boy who is trying to come to terms with the death of his older sister - whom he barely remembers, and two friends - a transfer student with a horrible secret in his past, and the rebel kid whose own father committed suicide some years back, about the same time the first boy's sister died. There's a flooded town, a temple with a young girl who can see spirits, out of body experiences, hypnotism, snarks... in short it's one of the most original and interesting anime to come along in years.

Ghost Hunt - 25 episodes - this was a fun little show about a girl who goes to work for Shibuya Psychic Research Center to replace a camera she accidentally broke, and she falls in with a group of psychics and holy people who go hunting for ghosts and other phenomenon. Lots of fun.

Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex - 26 Episodes  - more about the police unit than about any individual character (which is how the movie was). More Kanno Yoko music, which is cool. Now that I've seen it, I have to admit I was impressed. When this one comes out in the states you should really pick it up. Some of the events in the last 4 episodes are astonishing, and Kanno-sensei's music is among the best she's done.

Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig 26 more episodes - Stolen Plutonium. A plot against the Prime Minister. A rogue agent who may not even be a real person. A separatist plot. Fun stuff!

Ghost in the Shell - Innocence movie - a sequel to the original movie, not the TV show. Pretty astounding animation.

Ghost In The Shell - Solid State Society - it's now two years after the events in 2nd gig. The Major left the force ages ago and new threats abound - starting with the kidnapping of children and the suicides of the suspects. But is the Major really gone? Or is she starting to use her ability to move her body from one close to the next all part of a way to trap the bad guys? Good stuff.

Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex Solid State Society 3D movie - In a direct sequel to both the movie and TV series and tying things together, a group of men have kidnapped children in an attempt to become immortal and transfer their minds, forcing anyone who opposes them to commit suicide. With the police on one side and the Major on another, how can the bad guys possibly hope to win?

Ghost Sweeper Mikami 45 episodes

Ginban Kaleidoscope - 12 episodes

Gin-iro no Kami no Agito - movie

Girls Bravo 11 episodes - sort of about a young man who is allergic to women, except for the one from another planet who is prone to nudity. Actually a fun series.

Girls Bravo 2nd Season 13 Episodes - Okay, I admit it. I'm a pervert. I'm comfortable with that. Continued from the previous series.

Girls High - 13 episodes and 2 short specials - This one was simple, a bit ecchi, and fun to watch. Just a silly slice of life about 6 1st year high school girls.

Glass no Kamen (1984) 23 episodes

Gokujo - Gokurakuin Joshikou Ryou Monogatari - 13 episodes This is an odd one, about a high school girl living in an all girls dorm who wants to project that she's hot and sexy but has no real clue how to do so, and winds up coming across like a bitch (her own term)

Gokujou Seitokai - 26 episodes - your basic story of an all-girls school and.... hand puppets?

Golden Boy  - 6 OAVs

Goshusho-sama Ninomiya-kun - 12 episodes a fairly silly love comedy about a young man who is stronger than he thinks and the girl he is forced to live with, who happens to be a Succubus, and a rich girl who ends up as his maid. It was silly and fun.

GOSICK 25 episodes - in that idyllic period between world war I and world war II a young Japanese man comes to study at a school in a fictional small country in western Europe, where he befriends a reclusive little girl living in the school library tower, who happens to actually be his age and an impossibly smart detective...

Gravitation  - 13 episodes - your basic love story between an up-and-coming rock star and a writer. The hitch? They're both men. Interesting story.

GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka)  - 43 episodes  - There is also a live-action TV series of this, which I also have. This is the story of 22 year-old Onizuka, who became a teacher to pick up on young girls, but instead gets assigned to a class of hoodlums. Then one very cute girl in the class seems to be everything Onizuka ever dreamed of, only to set him up for blackmail by the hoodlums. He's got troubles, yes? Actually, no. Onizuka is actually a legendary gang leader - and these kids have no idea what they're in for!!!! The first episode comes across like an OAV.

Guilty Crown 22 episodes A high school boy named Shuu finds himself drawn into a rebellion against the government in a semi-apocolyptic Tokyo, where a massive disease ravaged the city some 10 years earlier. He gets involved with a secret weapon meant for the leader of the rebellion winds up in his hands and accidentally installed in his body, allowing him the ability to pull weapons from the souls of others. This is the beginning of a truly involved story, and the discovery that he is more involved than even he knows...

Guin Saga 1-23 two young royal twins, Linda and Remus, find themselves orphaned and on the run after an attack by an invading army to their homeland - and just when all seems hopeless they stumble across a man with the body of a barbarian, the head of a leopard, and no memory other than his name is Guin. And Guin becomes their protector as a great swordsman and fighter. At first, the story seems to be about Guin and how he protects Linda and Remus, but bit by bit the story becomes one of political intrigue between warring countries, an attempt to reconcile them, and a deep plot by a young prince to take over the world and install himself as a god.

Gun X Sword - 26 episodes

Gunslinger Girl - 13 episodes - fairly "noir-ish" look at a group of young girls (grade school age) who are also master assassins. Fun series.

Gunslinger Girl - Il Teatrino - 13 episodes, one DVD special episode - a continuation of the previous story, although the girls are all a bit older now. There will be 2 DVD only episodes later this year.

H2 (DVD) - 41 episodes - another great story by one of the masters, Mitsuru Adachi

Haiyoru! Nyaruani Remember My Love(craft Sensei) 12 episodes - more flash animation about a group of alien demon girls.

Hana Yori Dango - Movie - you read that right, movie. I have the TV series down in fansubs. I was walking down Clement Street (near my house in San Francisco) when I noticed a new Japanese place. I went in. It's just a little grocery store, with food imported from Japan. And one DVD - this one. They don't have any other DVDs and I bought it, so they have none now.

Hanamaru Youchien - 12 episodes - Tsuchida is starting his new job as a kindergarten teacher, and he discovers that one of his students is the daughter of his high school senpai, who ran off with a teacher. The daughter, in turn, decides it's okay for her to fall for her teacher too... Watch the closing credits of each episode - they're all different. A touching and funny series.

Hanasaku Iroha 26 episodes When Iroha's mother decides to move her boyfriend in with them there isn't enough room for her daughter, so she is sent to live at the Ryoukan owned by her grandmother. Iroha looks at this as an adventure and goes willingly, only to discover that she's expected to earn her keep and work at the inn. Bit by bit she takes to it and the staff, who know nothing about her Tokyo ways, start to accept her as well. Fun series.

Hanaukyou Maid Tai  - 6 OAVs

Hanasakeru Seishounen 39 episodes, 1 recap episode, 2 specials - This is the tale of Kajika Barnsworth, the half-Japanese and half American only daughter of one of the wealthiest men in the world, given a challenge by her father to find 3 men who could possibly become her husband, and then finding her soul mate among them. Little does she realize that a past she knows nothing about, a playboy whose girlfriends have a habit of committing suicide, a prince, and the son of the one family that considers the Barnsworths their enemies will all become intertwined with a crisis of succession in a fictional middle-east country. Hanoka - 13 short episodes - this is a 12 episode (with one re-cap) anime done entirely in flash animation, about a young woman in a planetary war who partners up with a magical girl to take the fight to the enemy. all episodes combined are only about 40 minutes, and it was hecka-fun.

Happiness! 12 episodes

Happy Lesson - 3 OAVs - okay, how would YOU like it if you had to live with not one, not two, but FIVE of your teachers? Each one of which being slightly crazier than the other? Cute little story based upon a Manga that looks like it could have gone into a full series, but didn't.

Happy Lesson TV - 13 episodes, 1 OAV, a few short stories and cosplay interviews with the cast okay, so I have the TV series now. Stop bugging me about it. Much like the OAV series but even more so. The OAV from the TV series suddenly shows a lot more skin than earlier episodes.

Happy Lesson Advance - 13 more episodes - More adventures with 5 moms - one of whom may have ANOTHER "adopted" kid. The way this one ends makes me believe that there will be one more series (and there is – 3 OAVs I have down in fansubs)

Happy 7 the TV Mange - 13 episodes

Harlock Saga  - 6 OAVs - not really sure I like this one. Harlock mostly just transports the other characters from the Ring of the Neibulung to the places they need to be in the story. And it only covers the first opera

Hooligan - 2 episodes (hentai)

Hoshi Neko Full House 4 OAVs

Hoshi wo Ou Kodomo Movie - This is a great movie - the best of 2011 in my opinion - about a girl who listens to distant radio signals through a crystal radio she built, using a crystal that was a gift from her late father. When one day she encounters a deadly and strange beast she is rescued by a young man with incredible power, only to lose him almost as quickly as they met. Throw in a government task force trying to find the beast, a teacher with a mysterious past, and another world deep beneath the Earth's surface full of old gods and amazing creatures as well as a lost tribe of humanity and you get the best Studio Ghbli movie not made by Studio Ghbli in years.

Hoshizora e Kakaru Hashi - 12 episodes, 1 OAV This is a pretty typical harem anime - a high school aged boy and his younger brother move to the country for the health of the younger brother and every girl in town falls for the older one. The animation is nice and it's obviously based on an H-Game, but it's not bad, really.

Hoshizora Kiseki OAV

Hotarubi no Mori e movie

Houkago Midnighters - movie plus comedy short extras

Hourou Musuko - 11 episodes The tale of two friends, just now entering high school. The girl likes to dress up like a boy and the boy likes to dress up like a girl, and they're both trying to find their way in the world. Surprisingly touching and moving series.

Howl no Ugoku Shiro - movie Howl's Moving Castle!!!!

Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls TV Version - 12 episodes - Mune Akira is returning to his old school to study martial arts, only to discover that he has a hidden talent - to awaken the power of the "Super Samurai" in girls he kisses, including the mysterious one who just dropped from the sky...

Hyouka - 23 episodes - episode 11.5 came later

Hyperpolice 25 episodes

I Love You - 2 OAVs

ICE - 3 OAVs - to be honest, it isn't very good, but it's the futuristic story of a society populated only by women trying to solve how to become pregnant. Sort of. Well, not really. It involves the worst single piece of voice acting I've ever heard in an anime - the female lead seems to have no emotional range at all, and sounds stuffed-up.

Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou - 12 episodes - an young man with an unusual past goes to attend a special school for magic users, and when he reaches the "sorting hat" (it's actually a bird) he's told that it is his destiny to become the "Daimaou" - the devil who destroys the world... OH, and it's a harem comedy.

Infinite Ryvius 26 episodes

Infinite Stratos -12 episodes, 1 OAV This is the tale of the only man ever able to control a type of bioweapon that resembles an armored suit, and the women who flock to him. Well, it's better than that, but I couldn't resist the description.

Innocent Venus – 12 episodes A quick little one about a girl who is wanted by the government and the two young soldiers who are trying to protect her.

Inu X Boku SS - 12 episodes This is a quirky and wonderful story about a high school girl (and very tsundere) who moves into an apartment on her own after a stifling childhood of privilege who finds herself with an instant servant and admirer. But the people who live in this apartment complex, including our heroine, are much more than they seem...

Inukami 26 episodes

Inukami! The Movie

Inuyasha TV  - 166 episodes (final episode is a double), 4 movies and a TV special  - It stays remarkably true to the Manga, which is a good thing. My guess is that we’ll see a 5th movie… This is the second-longest complete series I’ve collected. It will move to 3rd when I have all of Prince of Tennis

Inuyasha - Kanketsu-hen 26 episodes And finally the TV series moves to a final resolution.

Iria: Zeiram the Animation  - 6 OAVs - Interesting little tale of a special bounty hunter and the monster that keeps invading her life. I liked the Egyptian touches, but this was fairly run-of-the-mill.

Irresponsible Captain Tylor  - 26 episodes, 8 OAVs

I's Pure 6 episodes

Issho ni Training - believe it or don't, this is a mildly ecchi exorcise video.

Itazura na Kiss 25 episodes - This one is great, and based upon the manga of the same name, about a young girl who falls for the coldest, most handsome boy in her high school. He rejects her, but they wind up living together after an accident destroys her home (their fathers are close friends). What follows is a multi-year relationship between these to from high school into their professional lives. The manga is tragically unfinished, as the author died in a freak accident.

Move forward a few years and his memory suddenly comes back when he is killed and discovers he has the power to survive death on a strangely limited basis. He then rescues his Vampire princess, who joins him at their high school...

Izumo Takeki Tsurugi no Senki 12 episodes

Jigoku Sensei Nube 49 episodes, 3 OVAs, 3 Movies

Jigoku Shoujo - 27 episodes - not 26 as some would have you believe. This one rocks! At exactly midnight you can access a web site that will allow you to meet Enma Ai, the girl who takes people to hell. You can send one person to hell for any reason if she gives you one of her dolls. But there is a price.... And for some reason Ai has a connection with a little girl who is the daughter of a reporter investigating the deaths and disappearances associated with this web site... The best show of the end of 2005/beginning of 2006

Jigoku Shoujo - Futakomori 26 episodes - Sequel to the series above. This time you get to find out the back stories of all of the assistants to Enma Ai, and she has a new one who is chaos personified. A worthy follow up to the original series, with one story that refers back to the original and feeds through several different plots.

Jigoku Shoujo - Mitsuganae 27 episodes plus preview special - the third series, and this time Enma Ai has not only found a way back, but has a long term plan for the future...

Jinki: Extend 12 episodes

Joouheika Puti Angie 26 episodes

Jormungand 1-12 This is the story of a very smart female mercenary and her team of experts, doing work to help actually stop violence - as seen from the point of view of a boy named Jonah, a sharpshooting orphan she helped rescue...

Jungle Taitei - 52 episodes. We're not talking about the re-make here. This is the original, from 1966. The first ever color television cartoon. The inspiration for nearly everything that came after it in the whole world, from Hana Barbara to Warner Brothers to The Lion King, which is based on the story here of Leo, the white lion cub forced to assume his birthright at an early age.

Juuni no Kikkoku - 39 episodes - Literally, 12 countries. About a high school girl who is forced (along with two sort of friends) into a foreign land where they don't even speak the language - and she's supposed to become Empress! Great one.

K - 13 episodes

The Kabocha Wine 95 episodes This is an old series about a young boy who has been raised around nothing but girls and women and decided to escape by enrolling in an all-boys high school. Alas, they went co-ed last year. Once there, he meets the largest girl he’s ever seen, who instantly falls for him. Despite being voiced by the same actor who did Ataru in Urusei Yatsura, this character is a blowhard, but is actually a nice guy. Fun series.

The Kabocha Wine movie - Nita no Aijou Monogatari

Kage Kara Mamoru - 12 episodes

Kaibutsu Oujo - 26 episodes

Kaicho ha Maid-sama! 27 episodes The tale of the leader of the student council, who rides the students like a real master, but is so poor that she supports her family in secret by working in a Maid Cafe. Unfortunately, her secret gets discovered by one wise-ass student, and this anime details their relationship after that. It's hella fun.

Kakkyuusei  - 4 OAVs. A bit Hentai, but more of a focus on romance. Recommended.

Kakyuusei (TV sersion) 14 episodes

Kamichama Karin 26 episodes

Kami Nomizo Shiru Sekai - 12 episodes, 1 OAD - the self-proclaimed God of Videogames finds himself mistaken for a real god by a cute demon and now has to seduce 100 women or lose his head...

Kami Nomizo Shiru Sekai 2nd Season - 12 episodes - and the story continues...

Kamichu! - 16 episodes A quick summer series about a young girl who wakes up one morning and realizes she's a god. Exceptionally good animation, very reminiscent of Studio Ghibili, and a cute story as well. The best series of the summer of 2005.

Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne - 44 episodes

Kami-sama Dolls - 13 episodes This is a tale of a young man who leaves his village behind to go to college in Tokyo, but discovers that his old life has followed him. Thing is, that old life includes an exclusive group of people who can control mechanized "gods" that go do both great good and great damage, and more than one wants him to return to that life. Great show, and I hope there is a second series.

Kami-sama Kazoku - 13 episodes

Kami-sama no Memo-chou 12 episodes This is the story of a high school student who is convinced to take a part time job working in a Ramen shop by a girl in his class, and discovers working in the same building a reclusive computer genius little girl who runs a small detective agency. This is a great series, and is the first to feature a 1 hour premiere episode.

Kampfer 12 episodes

Kanamemo - 13 episodes An oddly fun little series about a young and suddenly homeless orphan who finds herself working for a small newspaper delivery service in exchange for room and board, and the eccentric apartment-mates and grade-school age boss she winds up with.

Kanamemo DVD Version - 13 episodes Same as above, but with the censored parts removed, and many of them not what you'd think...

Kannatsuki no Miko 12 episodes

Kanokon 12 episodes - fairly ecchi anime about a group of young girls who are actually animals in disguise who all have crushes on the same boy, led by a large-breasted fox who can merge with him. Silly, but fun.

Kanokon DVD version - 12 episodes, 12 specials same as above, but more ecchi

Kanokon - Manatsu no Kaishanikusai - 2 more OAVs

Kanon 24 episodes - I don't think there are enough good things that anyone can say about this show. It's jaw-droppingly good. Yuuichi returns to Hokkaido for his final year of high school hoping to remember events from his last visit 7 years ago. Little does he yet realize that almost everything happening in the present has to do with his past...

Kara no Kyoukai 7 OAV/Movies

Kara no Kyoukai Final Chapter - The Garden of Sinners

Karas - 6 OAVs

Karigurashi no Arietty - movie Studio Ghibli's 2011 release and their first with a new director - based on the book "The Borrowers" and pretty good.

Karin 24 episodes Imagine a young girl. Imagine that her relatives are all vampires. But she's a reverse vampire. She needs to give blood instead of take it from her victims. Imagine someone spots her, and agrees to keep her secret. Imagine a vampire hunter as well. Imagine anime high school romance. Imagine.... a comedy! I've been enjoying this one.

Karte - Another Hentai. But this time she's a NURSE!  : p

Kashimashi - Girl Meets Girl - 12 episodes + one extra episode

Katanagatari 12 episodes This is a truly unique anime, running in a one hour slot once a month starting in January 2010. It is the tale of a young woman who goes to recruit the man known as the human katana in order to collect 12 legendary swords, only to discover that the man in question died several years prior. So instead, she recruits his son - a martial arts master whose special skill relies on the fact that he can't use a sword...

Kaze no Naka no Shoujo - Kinpatsu no Jeanie 52 episodes

Kaze no Taitiku - movie

Kaze no Tani To Naushika - one of the best movies ever made, let alone Anime. The United Nations awarded this film a prize, which they almost never do.

Keion 13 episodes, plus a DVD only episode Two girls decide they want to start a rock band club for their high school, and recruit a gifted pianist and a scatterbrained girl with no experience at all to be their lead guitarist. It's told from the point of view of the guitarist, who turns out to be surprising... This one was hella fun.

Keion!! 26 episodes - The continuation of the original, following the girls until the first group graduates from high school. At the end of the last episode they announces a movie to come!

Keitai Shouo 6 short episodes - this is an interesting little anime; the first made specifically to be watched on a cell phone. There were 5 episodes and then people got to vote on which girl the hero would wind up with, which was then turned into a 6th and final episode.

Kemonozume – 13 episodesI’m not sure how to really describe this one. It was great though. About a group of people who have been fighting man-eating monsters for centuries. But the heir to the leadership post has fallen in love with one of them. Surreal, strange animation. Well worth the watch.

Kenkou Zenrakei Suiebu Umisho - 13 episodes - a fun title about a swimming club bound for the nationals who gets a new member who swims like a fish and likes to practice nude.

Kereshi Kanojo no Jijou  - 26 episodes - love this one, but there's so much visual candy going on that I really wonder if The Right Stuf can pull it off. (Update  - they just previewed the DVD and it actually looks pretty sharp! However, I have my Japanese DVDs so I'm cool. Besides, I've heard some complaints that the subtitles are slow). Go read the Manga - the Anime only goes through volume 9 and the Manga is still in progress at volume 20 although the end is in sight. Also known as Karekano.

Kiddy Grade II - 3 movies

Kiddy Girl And - 24 episodes

Kidou Shinsengumi Moeyo Ken - 13 episodes

Kill Me Baby! - 13 episodes - This is the story of a young girl whose best friend happens to be an assassin. It's a comedy.

Kimagure Orange Road  - 48 episodes, 8 OAVS, 2 Movies  - One of my all-time favorites. I started learning Japanese because of this show.

Kimi ga Nozxomu Eien ~Next Season~ 4 OAVs, continuing the story from the fansubs

Kimi Kiss - Pure Rouge 24 episodes, 1 OAV

Kimi ni Todoke 25 episodes Sawako has been misunderstood since she was small - she comes across like that scary girl from every Japanese horror movie you've seen, but in reality she's very sweet. It's just that no one believes it. That is, until the most popular boy in school meets her and decides to be her friend, which cascades into other friendships and rivalries - none of which she has ever experienced before. This is a great story.

Kimi ni Todoke 2nd Season - 13 episodes. The story continues into the second year of high school for our characters, and Sawako and Kazahaya are moving ever closer to being able to commit to one another...

Kimi to Boku - 12 episodes This is a wonderful little anime about 5 boys as they grow up together in their high school years.

Kimi to Boku 2 - 13 episodes And this is the continuation of the same story.

Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbou - 148 episodes, 2 movies, 3 specials Sort of the anime equivalent of "Murder She Wrote" - this is the story of Kindaichi Hajime, a brilliant young man who can solves crimes and that's a good things, because people get murdered wherever he goes.

King of Bandit Jing - 13 episodes

Kingyo Chuuihou (Goldfish Warning) - 54 episodes

Kirameki Project - 5 OAVs

Kobato - 24 episodes a girl named Kobato drops from the skies and has a mission to make a certain number of people happy within 1 year. But why? And why is she so simple-minded? And why does she have a fire-breathing stuffed dog as her companion? A fun one from the evil geniuses of cute, CLAMP.

Kodomo no Jikan OAV - there's the girl who is in love with her teacher, her friend who is in love with her, and their third friend with the big rack who is in love with the brother of the first one. And oh, yeah, they're all in grade school. Lolicon has made it bigtime, and a TV show is soon to follow!

Kodomo no Jikan TV Version 12 episodes - the censored version, which can be even funnier given how things get covered and bleeped out. The show takes a very dark and surprising turn towards the end, which the manga doesn't, so be warned.

Kodomo no Jikan 6 DVD Version (12 episodes) This series is hilarious and disturbing. Not so much nudity really, but lots of swearing and having cute 8-year old girls ask their teacher to explain what fellatio is. If you can't handle that, don't watch.

Kodomo no Jikan - Rin no Gakkyu Nisshi Tokubetsu Hen - movie a movie version of the story above, and advances the story further, in preperation for a second series.

Kodomo no Jikan Ni Gakki OAV 0

Kodomo no Jikan Ni Gakki 3 OAVs the children are a year older and a year smarter...

Kodomo no Jikan Volume 9 Comic DVD

Kodomo No Omocha  - 102 episodes, 1 OAV - READ THE MANGA! IT'S BRILLIANT! And it ends completely different than how the Anime ends. This is perhaps the fastest-paced show ever done. The tone is fast and furious, and it NEVER lets up. There have been moments where I have doubled over in laughter. This is split into two DVD box sets  - Shougakusei and Chuugakusei.

Koharu Biyori 3 OAVS about a young man who buys a robot maid for himself so that he can dress her up in costumes. But she's looking for a relationship.

Kokurikozaka Kara - movie

Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku wo - Youkoso Tsugumi Ryou he - 13 episodes

Kore ha Zombie Desu ka? 13 episodes This is a truly odd harem anime, about a teenaged zombie who lives with the mute necromancer who revived him, an alternate dimension chainsaw-toting magical girl who accidentally transfers her powers to him, a vampire ninja assassin - all trying to discover the mystery behind who killed him in the first place...

Kore ha Zombie Desu ka? Of the Dead - 1 OAD, 10 episodes The sequel to the above, with more of the same.

Koume-chan ga Iku! 12 episodes

Kowarekake no Orgel - OAV

Kuraru Phantom Memory 24 episodes

Kurenai 12 episodes - Wow. How does one begin to describe this show, the best anime of Spring 2008? It's about a young man, Kurenai Shinkurou, who works as a low-lever enforcer for a mysterious woman with various ties to roganized crime and the wealthy and powerful, who wants to work on better jobs than the simple ones he's been doing. She his boss gives him the assignment of protecting a 7 year-old girl named Murasaki, who it is evident has come from a life of luxury to now room with Shinkurou in his one-room apartment. But the little girl has a secret that defines her entire existence, and Shinkurou has skills that no one suspects. Great anime.

And he's about to become involved in the fight to stop it, thanks to a hungry girl and his bond with her that turns her into a near super-natural fighter...

Kuttsukiboshi 2 OAVs - this is a surprisingly heartwarming tale of two girls who fall in love after one has an accident and gains an unusual power. It takes some unexpected twists, but they all work and it's a pretty good story.

Kyojin no Hoshi 182 episodes

Kyouran Kazoku Nikki 26 episodes this is one of the fastest paced and silliest anime shows to come along in ages. Throw a young government worker and a diminutive firebrand alien cat-girl together and force them to marry, then adopt 5 children - 2 human, one android, one lion and one jellyfish. Stir and serve. The show is hilarious, and every episode has a different ending song and credits. Recommended.

Madlax 26 episodes

Magic Night Rayearth  - 49 episodes, 3 OAVs - an early effort by CLAMP, about 3 girls transported to the Kingdom of Cephiro (from Tokyo Tower no less) to save a Princess. Drawn very funny, with sudden switches back and forth between traditional animation and super-deformed. The second part of the story is far more serious than the first. The OAVs are like an alternate universe version of the first story, with some of the characters of the second story.

Magical Canan - some hentai

Magical Stage Emi  - 38 episodes, 1 movie - The TV series is fun. The movie is more of a mood piece, but a good one.

A great little series.

Mohou no Takkyuubin (Kiki's Delivery Service) - movie - a young witch goes to find her place in the world.

Mahou no Yosei Persia - 48 episodes - a bit different from the other Magical Girl series, the girl's name really is Persia, and she's just come home from Africa to live with her parents in Japan. Then it gets strange... at episode 20 the whole formula changes and it's a lot of fun. Then at episode 32 it changes again. Something I've noticed - a lot of the same minor actors from Creamy Mami and Magical Stage Emi also appear in this one. Kidokuro from Creamy Mami is now a Kappa.

Majikano - 13 episodes about a girl who discovers that a non-magical boy will be a big part of her future, and she hates him. Alas for her, his three sisters are all magic users themselves, as is almost everyone else around him. Fur series - especially the whole bit about the talking panties.

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's 13 episodes

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS 26 episodes

Magical Pokahn - 12 episodes (or 24, depending upon your point of view) and 3 OAVs - this one was hysterical. I laughed so hard that I had to be hospitalized, where they gave me a transfusion of strawberry juice and sent me on my way. Then I grew a tail and cat ears. It's THAT funny.

Magister Negi Magi - Negima! 26 more episodes another try at the same series - it works in spots, but digresses from the manga at about 10 minutes into the first episode and never looks back.

Maison Ikkoku  - 96 episodes, 2 OAVs, 1 movie - Perhaps the best anime ever in terms of pure story. I watch it once every few years, because it shows everything that a great story can be.

Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai! 12 episodes It starts out like a fighting and wargames anime but it quickly devolves into a harem anime with lots of sex jokes. It tries to regain the fighting mantle towards the end but it doesn't quite succeed. I'd bet the DVD version ha lots of uncensored nudity though.

Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai! DVD Version 12 episodes and tons of extras. Called it on the nudity.

Maken-Ki! 12 episodes, 1 OAV this is the story of a young man who returns to the town where he grew up in order to be with the girl he had a crush on when he was little (and she on him) only to discover that she now attends a special battle school that will quickly devole into a harem anime.

Martian Successor Nadesico  - 26 episodes, 1 movie - much sillier than it has the right to be, and has some clever bits about a show within the show, especially in episode 14.

Mashiro-iro Symphony 12 episodes This is the tale of a young man and his younger sister who are transferring schools when their school closes and the student body merges with an all-girls academy. And just when you think it's going to evolve into another harem anime it suddenly changes direction and a romance develops between the male lead and the leader of a small club on campus...

Mask of Glass  - 37 episdoes, 3 OAVs - If you like Oniisama e (Brother dear brother) or Aim for the Ace you'll like this one.

Mawaru Penguindrum 24 episodes. It is rare that you run across a series that can keep you so off balance. This is the tale of three siblings, two high school boys and their younger sister - living alone as their parents are absent. The sister is very sick, but has been better recently, but then suddenly changes and dies. But the brothers bought her by accident a magic hat at the aquarium and it brings her back to life, although possessed by an alien who allows her to live if the brothers will find a book for her. This book is the diary of a girl who is overly obsessive with one of her teachers - to the point of stalking him, even though he is dating a famous actress. There is also a terrorist erasing the memories of the girls that the oldest brother dates. Oh, and there are the penguins, which only the three siblings can see. Throw in terrorists, Tokyo Tower completely redesigned, a magic doctor, two idol singers who were once friends with the sister, and flashbacks that revolve around the subway system in Tokyo and you get a mess of a story that always seems to work anyway, with a direction that is impossible to predict at any given moment. I hope this one ends well, because the ride thus far has been wondrous.

Mayo-chiki 13 episodes Based on the series of novels, this is the tale of a high school boy with an actual allergy to contact with girls who accidentally discovers that the most popular boy in the school, a butler of a rich girl who also attends the school, is actually a girl disguised as a boy. Upon also discovering that the sweet and popular rich girl is actually slightly evil, he agrees to help keep the butler's secret, which is difficult given the large number of girls who want him/her. And the fact that she's starting to gain feelings for him. A very funny series.

Mayo-chiki Blue-Ray version 13 episodes. Same story, more nudity.

Mermaid's Forest  - Movie  - a great stand alone title by the creator of Ranma, Maison Ikkoku, and Inuyasha. Mermaid flesh can give immortal life, but only to a select few....

Mermaid's Scar  - Movie  - companion to Mermaid's forest

Metropolis  - Movie  - just got this - very cool. Love the soundtrack.

Mezzo DSA - 13 episodes - FINALLY got this one!

Michiko to Hatchin 22 episodes - Set in South America, this is the story of an escaped, violent and beautiful woman named Michiko Morenos, who is a one woman wrecking crew attempting to get back to her beloved Hiroshi. Hanako is a young girl being raised by a cruel priest and his equally cruel family, but she's not their daughter - she's actually the daughter of Hiroshi, and Michiko has come to rescue her and take her to her real father. Shame she doesn't know a damned thing about children, and that Hanako ("Hatchin"), although not tougher, is more resilient and smarter than she is. Fun series.

Midori no Hibi - 13 episodes

Mikan Enikki - 31 episodes and a short

Mimi o Sumaseba - a great movie. If you don't have it go get it. The most original use of a John Denver tune I've ever heard. The last two minutes will make your jaw drop. One of the last few Studio Ghibili movies not available in the U.S.

Minami-ke 13 episodes - a nice little slice of life about 3 sisters living on their own. Of course, they're a little bit strange... There's a sequel as well that is the next item on this list.

Minami-ke Okawari - 13 more episodes see? sequel.

Minami-ke Okaeri - 13 more episodes and then a 2nd sequel. Great stuff.

Minami-ke Betsubara - OAV

Minami-ke Omatase - OAV

Minky Momo  - 126 episodes, 3 OAV, 1 movie, 2 specials - this is actually 2 separate TV series, done 10 years apart, starring different girls named Minky Momo. The two series have the same theme though, and their plot lines become entangled towards the end of the second series. And my sources tell me there's a third in the works!

Minna Agechau OAV

Miracle Girls - 51 episodes

Miracle Shoujo Limit-chan 25 episodes

Mirai Nikki 26 episodes Yuki is a young man with few friends, save one imaginary friend that he sees only in his dreams. This friend however is more than real, and given him a "diary" in a cell-phone that shows Yuki the future. What Yuki is about to learn, however, is that this diary is part of a game involving a total of 12 players who each have their own diaries, and the idea is that the last one alive gets any wish they want fulfilled. And Yuki, a loner and a bit of a weakling, is by far the most sane person with a diary - a group that includes a mad bomber, a murderous detective, a child who killed his parents, one of his own teachers, and a classmate who wants nothing more than to be Yuki's girlfriend, who might be a genuine psychotic...

Mission-E 12 episodes the sequel to Code-E, several years later. The kids are grownups now and running an organization trying to protect people with the same powers the girl (now grown) from the first series has. New characters, and the several plot lines left hanging from the first series are addressed.

Mister Ahikko - 100 episodes

Mitsudomoe 13 episodes - This is the tale of three sisters, triplets, all in the 5th grade. They are all radically different from one another - one is a bit mean, one is super strong and a bit of a pervert, and one is dark and gloomy with a sentimental streak. They have a new teacher and a new class and life will never be the same. Fun series.

Mitsudomoe Zouryouchuu! 9 episodes And actually, the 9th is an un-aired episode from the 1st series. Episodes 10-12 that ran during this sequel were actually episodes from season 1.

Miyori no Mori - movie

Miyuki  - 37 episodes and a music video collection - Sweet little title by the same guy who brought us Touch. About a young man and his little sister, named Miyuki, and his girlfriend, also named Miyuki. Unfortunately, it doesn't finish the story that’s in the Manga.

Mizuiro Jidai - 47 episodes

MM - 12 episodes This is the story of Taro, a young man with an unfortunate fetish - he's a masochist and he was outed by accident two years ago by a girl who actually has a crush on him but is afraid of men. But he's about to meet the pint-sized leader of the school volunteer club, who takes it as her mission to cure him while heaping the abuse on him higher and higher, which he of course loves...

Mnemosyne - 6 OAVs

Moetan - 13 episodes

Momoji - 4 episodes (hentai)

Momoko, Kaeru no Uta ga Kikoeru yo - movie

Monkey Turn 25 episodes

Monochrome Factor 24 episodes this is is pretty run-of-the-mill, about a young man named Akira and some of his friends who fight monsters from the shadows. It has it's moments though, especially involving the gay shadow/mentor of Akira.

Mononoke Hime  - movie  - and an intense one at that. About the battle between a young girl raised by a wolf god and the warrior woman who wants to kill the gods, and the young man who exiles himself from his home village in order to save it - who winds up in the middle.

Morita-san ha Mukuchi 26 episodes, 1 OAV This is a wondrous little anime (all in 3 minute shorts save for the full-length OAV) about a girl who simply decides not to speak, and her friends.

Moshidora - 10 episodes, plus a preview This fun little series might wind up being best known as the show that the March 2011 Earthquake in Japan nearly derailed. It was scheduled to debut for a 10 week run the day after the quake, was delayed 6 weeks, and then finally ran on 10 consecutive weekdays. It's the tale of Minami, a girl who hates baseball who takes over the duties of team manager from her best friend when she falls ill and vows to take this second-rate team all the way to Koshien - but when she goes to pick up a book about managing baseball teams she accidentally picks up the famed bible of business management by Peter Drucker that MBA's all over the world swear by. As a result, she starts managing the team using Drucker's business principles...

Mouretsu Uchuu Kaizoku 26 episodes A high school girl (and pretty good space pilot if she does say so herself) named Marika discovers that her father was a notorious space pirate, and that she has inherited the ship and the command. With the help of some classmates and two of her teachers - actually crew disguised as teachers - she learns what it means to be a modern pirate (in this case, an important part of the economy) - and takes over command, all the while trying to complete high school. Actually a pretty fun series.

Musashi no Ken - 72 episodes - This is the tale of Musashi, whom we first meet at age 5 and is training to become the greatest Kendo fighter the world has ever seen. We follow his journey from that age until age 18.

Muteki Kanban Musume - 12 episodes

Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water  - 39 episodes, 1 movie - This one starts simple then gets real complex real fast. Takes a great deal of liberties with the story of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, but in the end it's worth it. Great extended series in the middle about being stranded on a deserted island. Good series, with a postscript that's absolutely amazing. The movie you can skip - the series ends perfectly.

Mushishi - 27 episodes (well, the episode between 20 & 21 is a recap as the series took some time off)

Nabari no Ou 26 episodes - this one rocks and has a most unusual animation style, as if it were done in watercolor. It's about a boy with a mysterious demon residing inside him, and the people who want to use that demon for their own purposes. Shame she has an agenda of her own. Lots of political infighting between groups and ninjas.

Naisho no Tsubomi - 3 OAVs - a nice little slice of life about a 5th grade girl who's mother becomes pregnant, and how she discovers how life works with a little help from her friends. Has a small Sci-fi twist and a romance as well.

Najica - 12 episodes

NANA 47 episodes

Nanaka 6/17 - 12 episodes

Nanako Ketai Shinsho - Literally, Nanako Comedy Medical Experiment. 6 OVAs about a Genetic experiment that both the U.S. Military and the Catholic Church want to co-opt for their own purposes - but the story centers around the VERY ditzy maid of three mad scientists - named Nanako interestingly enough - with huge breasts (TORPEDOES - give me a frickin' break here, you could put an eye out with one of those!) and her interactions with one scientist in particular. Or is SHE the experiment...

Nanako SOS - 39 episodes

Nanatsu no Umi no Tico 39 episodes

Nanatsuiro Drops - 12 episodes This one was a lot of fun; the story of a boy who is accidentally cursed into becoming the stuffed animal companion of a new magical girl

Narue no Sekai - 12 episodes

Natsu-iro Kiseki - 12 episodes, epilogue

Natsuyuki Rendevous - 11 episodes

Natural  - 2 OAVs, Hentai. Basic male fantasy video.

Nazca  - 12 episodes

Nazo no Kanojo - 13 episodes, 1 OAV. This is a truly odd and wonderful story about a young man who falls for an odd girl in his class - she hears voices and one of them has told her that he will be her first lover - but the story takes a strange turn when he tastes her drool, which suddenly allows him to know what she's feeling. It sounds like it would be gross, but it's actually a sweet love story.

Neko Machi OAV

Neko no Ongaishi - Movie (includes the wild short, Gibiliizu episode 2) - She saves a cat, and it turns out the cat is a prince. The prince's father decides to reward the girl by giving her to his son as a bride. Girl runs to a famous cat known as "The Baron" for help. Sounds simple, but it's quite sweet. "The Baron" comes from the great studio Ghibili film "Mimi wo Sumaseba". This is Studio Ghibili's 2002 release, and there are moments of sheer breathtaking magic. The shorts that accompany it are also quite good.

Nekogami Yaoyorazu 12 episodes, 1 OAV This is the tale of a young cat goddess who is sent to Earth as a punishment and winds up living with the owner of a small antique shop. She is also friends with the local god and many other young cat goddesses are also friends of hers, so this winds up being more about their lives and small adventures than anything else.

Neon Genesis Evangelion  - 24 episodes, 2 movies  - the movies were originally supposed to be TV episodes but got expanded for a number of reasons. I pretty much had the Character of Rei figured out around episode 22, but the movies really pounded some of that into dust. Where this one goes can give you nightmares. Great show.

Nichijou OAV, 26 episodes This is a slice of life story about a little town, some high school girls, a 7 year-old professor and her robot and talking cat, and just their day-to-day lives. Oh, and virtually everyone is insane. Very funny show.

Nisemonogatari - 11 episodes. The sequel to Bakemonogatari, which focuses a bit more on the relationship with our hero's sisters.

Nishi no Yoki Majo - Astraea Treatment - 13 episodes

Nodame Cantabile 23 episodes - First was the manga, then the live action, and now the anime - which stays very true to the manga. Fun stuff!

Nodame Cantabile Paris-Hen 11 episodes, 1 OAD the continuation of the same story, through Nodame's big Mozart recital and Chiaki's taking over of a small orchestra

Nodame Final - 11 episodes And now we bring the story to a conclusion, as the careers of both Chiaki and Nodame take off.

Noein - 24 episodes

Neo Ranga - 48 episodes - I can't really explain this one, but let's try anyway. Imagine 3 sisters who are picked out by a particularly vengeful god from an island half owned by the Japanese and half owned by the French. Imagine that the god/monster decides to come to Tokyo, and everyone finds out. Now suppose that at least one of the sisters would like to see the town destroyed by the monster. Each episode is only 15 minutes, and is tons of fun. Update! My disc 4 is defective!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!! And this series is hard to find in the original Japanese! I had to go and buy disc 4 of the American release. AND disc 5!!!

Nijuu-Mensou no Musime 22 episodes this one starts out about a rich girl willingly kidnapped by a notorious gentleman thief - she joins his gang. But then tragedy strikes the thieves and it develops into something much more. Set in the aftermath of WWII, it follows the young girl through tragedy and triumph, with daring thievery and a bit of the supernatural, or the scientifically improbable. An amazing anime.

Ningyo no Mori 11 episodes  - the TV version of Mermaid's Forrest by Takahashi Rumiko.

No. 6 - 11 episodes This is the tale of two young men who met once as boys, one an escapee from a project designed to raise geniuses and one who drops out, who find themselves embroiled in a strange plot to destroy a protected town called "No. 6" A bit Yaoi but not overtly so.

Noir 26 episodes   - Supremely cool. Many people find this a bit slow and pedantic, but I like it. I rather like girls with guns -_^

Norageki - Movie 5 prisoners on a space station awaken in their cells to discover that they are the only ones left on the station (well, them and a cat) and that the orbit of the station is rapidly decaying...

Nyan Koi! 12 episodes - a poor young man who is allergic to cats accidentally damages a cat god's statue and suddenly finds himself able to understand them, and needing to do favors for 99 or else he'll turn into a cat himself...

Nymphs of the Stratosphere - 3 OAVs

Oda Nobuna no Yabou - 12 episodes, 1 summary

Okusama wa Joshikousei - 13 episodes (or 26, depending upon how you want to count) - a summer series about a high school senior and a teacher at her school who secretly married, and their efforts to keep it secret until she graduates. Cute, kinda ecchi, and surprisingly romantic.

Okusama wa Mahou Shojo - 13 episodes

Omamori Himari 12 episodes - based on the manga of the same name, this is the tale of a young boy under the protection of a Cat demon, and the demons he is supposed to fight who one by one become part of his harem...

Omohide Poroporo - movie - a lesser known Studio Ghibili title, well worth the time

On Your Mark -  How would you like to have YOUR music video done by Studio Ghibili? That's what happens here. It's only 8 minutes long, but it's very cool.

One - 4 OAVs - Just who is Oehara Kouhei and why do people remember him one moment and not the next? Very intriguing little ghost story.

Onegai Teacher - I'm not sure how many episodes. I'll let you know when I watch it.

One Piece 1-570, movies 1-10, specials 1-3 hate the character design, love the show. I bought the official Chinese DVDs, which are dubbed in Chinese but keep the original Japanese on a second soundtrack, which is how I will watch it. This show is SUPREMELY long, so far over 500 episodes. Once I have the entire series it will be the longest I have ever collected – a record currently held by Sailor Moon.

Onii-chan no Koto Nanka Zenzen Suki Ja Nain Dakara ne!! 12 episodes. This is the tale of a girl in love with her perverted older brother, who discovers one day by accident that she's adopted and not actually related to that brother - just at the same time that other girls start expressing an interest in him...

Ookami Kakushi 12 episodes - a high school boy, his younger handicapped sister and their horror-novelist father move to a small town in the country, only to find themselves slowly drawn into a local legend about wolves and gods - and that the boy himself somehow triggers a response from the wolves...

Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi - 12 episodes There is a group of students who help other students, led by tough-girl Ookami. There's a boy in her class with a crush on her, and although he has no special skills per se he is very brave and even though she doesn't need it, he comes to her protection anyway - which leads him into this group of helpers. It's a very funny series, with a narrator thrown in that two of the characters can hear...

Ore no Imouto ga Konna Kawaii Wake Ga Nai - 15 episodes, plus "How to Imouto" extra - The tale of a high school boy who is shocked to discover that his little sister is not only an Otaku, but only likes one kind of game - the kind with little sisters - when she asks him to help her keep her secret...

Ore-tachi ni Tsubasa ha Nai - 12 episodes, 1 OAV It takes a while to come together, but this is the tale of a young man who is also a warrior on another plane of existence, and while he is gone his body is taken over by three other beings (in succession) who all run his life differently than he does. And when it finally does come together, we discover that nothing is what we thought it was... The OAV isn't tied to the TV series and is actually a pretty ecchi one-off based on the original H Game

Ore-tachi ni Tsubasa ha Nai DVD Version - 12 episodes This uncensored version of the TV show returns to the ecchiness of the original OAV, which is really something given the "suck out the poison" scene in episode 8

Orishitate Musical Nerima Daikon Brothers - 13 episodes

Otogi Zoshi - 26 episodes

Otome wa book ni Koishiteru – 13 episodes – a Harem anime about a boy dressed like a girl so he can attend an all-girl’s Catholic school. But it’s not the sex-drenched show you might expect, and it runs in directions that while predictable are also not really run of the mill either. I liked it.

Otome Youkai Zakuro - 13 episodes - 3 soldiers find themselves assigned to work with a group of girls who are half demon and have skills in subduing other demons

Outlaw Star - 24 episodes

Ozuma 6 episodes A story by the great Reiji Matsumoto (Spaceship Yamato, Galaxy 999 Express) about a yong man who is part of the crew of a sand ship who rescues a maiden in distress that may have control over an elusive creature that lead to his brother's disappearance.

Panchira Teacher - 2 episodes (hentai)

Pani Poni Dash - 26 episodes

Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt - 13 episodes This one is bizarre and hilarious, about two crimefighting girls who have special undergarments that turn into guns. Oh, and Panty is a slut and Stocking is a goth. Garterbelt is a priest who coordinates their actions. Oh, and they collect coins that appear when they kill off a bad guy, in order to try to get back into heaven. It's as if the Powerpuff girls were done by the creators of South Park...

Papa no Iu Koto wo Kikinasai - 12 episodes This is the story of a college-aged young man who's older sister is killed in a plane crash, leaving behind 3 children. When other members of the family decide to split up the three sisters he takes them in. The problem is that he lives in a one room apartment and now he's sharing it with three young girls, one of whom has a crush on him...

Paprika - Movie

Paradise Kiss - 12 episodes - About a girl named Yukari who is discovered to become a fashion model, and the very strange group of fashion designers she works with. This one was great.

Peach Girl 25 episodes

Penguin Musume Heart - 22 episodes, several specials - this one was a lot of fun - a series of short episodes designed for cell-phone users (I think) about a girl nicknamed "Penguin" who transfers to a new school. She's a little bit nuts - an Otaku in every sense of the word who believes that such things can translate into reality. Fortunately for her, she's rich enough to try to pull it off.

Persona - Trinity Soul 26 episodes An interesting series about 3 brothers and their ability to use their "Persona"s to create psychic mechas that battle. It's more complicated than that, and more than a bit emo, but still a good watch.

Petit Eva - Evangelion@School - 24 short episodes - 24 episodes of weirdness involving the major characters of Evangelion set at a high school.

Peter Pan no Bouken 41 episodes

Petopeto-san - 13 episodes A very surreal show about a girl going to school for the first time, in 7th grade. Why hasn't she gone to school before now? Well, she's 1/2 ghost... GREAT SHOW.

Phantom the Animation - 3 OAVs

Puchi Puri Yucie - 26 episodes

Pumpkin Scissors - 24 episodes

Puni Puni Poemi - 2 OAVs

Quiz Magic Academy OAV

R-15 (TV Version) 12 episodes, 1 OAV.  This is the story of a young man accepted to a prestigious school for geniuses - and we're talking geniuses of any type - music, robotics, photography. His own specialty happens to be pornographic novels - for which he's already won awards for. Of course this puts him at odds with much of the student population, but between the clarinetist that he's sort of fallen for and the student body president who believes he is just what the school needs his life is far from simple. This is a harem anime that for the TV version was heavily censored.

Rain, The Little Girl and my Letter OAV - this is amateur anime!

Ranma  - - 161 episodes, 12 OAVS, 2 Movies, 3 Music Video collections  - doesn't take the story as far as the Manga does (most of the stuff involving Ranma's Mom is gone, as well as the story of the last two volumes of the manga) but still loads of fun. I finally upgraded to digital format.

Ray - 13 episodes and 1 making of special

Read or Dead - Hard to beat a 3 OAV series about a girl who has the ability to control... wait for it.... PAPER!!!!!!

RE Cutie Honey 3 OAVs

Rebuild of Evangelion 1.11 and 2.22 - The first 2 of 4 planned movies that retells the entire tale of the TV series. To be honest, most of it so far is almost exactly like the TV series, but I'm told changes are on the way...

Rec - 9 short episodes (okay, 10)

Record of Lodoss War Original  - 13 OAVs  - If you're the D&D type this is the series for you

Record of Lodoss War TV  - 26 episodes  - a later version of the tale.

Recorder to Randeru 13 epsidoes, 2 OAVs - is a sort of continuation of the short episode series Morita-san ha Mukuchi - it's set in the same universe - about a brother and sister who get mistaken for each other's ages - he's nearly 6 feet tall but only in the 5th grade, where she looks like a grade school girl but is in fact a high school senior...

Recorder to Randeru Re 13 more epsidoes

Red Garden 22 episodes - oh man oh man does this show rock!!!! 4 high school seniors with nothing in common have a mutual friend murdered. And they were all witnesses although they can't remember it. Then a woman shows up and tells them to start fighting demons... GREAT FREAKIN' SHOW

Red Lotus - another Monster Hentai title

Reideen - 26 episodes the most interesting take on mechas to come along in a while - about the son of a missing archeologist who manages to connect with alien technology in the form of a mecha called Reideen. The show takes into account things like gravity and the effect of huge machines on the surroundings - it's surprisingly well done.

Real Drive 26 Episodes this one is a bit hard to describe - sometime in the past a young man suffers an accident while free diving and is nearly killed. He wakes up years later an old man, unable to walk let alone get back into the ocean he loves. However, he's developed another skill - "diving" into the future's version of the internet to work as a rescuer. A fascinating show, and for once the women have meat on their bones.

Rental Magica 24 episodes - a show about a group of paranormal people solving crimes involving other paranormals. Fun little series.

RG Veda - 2 OAVs of sword and sorcery (there should have been more) from the Evil Geniuses at CLAMP.

Unfortunately, she's about to get swept up in a political movement trying to get rid of these machines...

Riding Bean - movie

Rinne no Lagrange 12 episodes This is the story of Ran, a high school girl trying to reform the famed "Jersey Club" that her mother and aunt ran back in the day, who discovers by accident that she can pilot mecha - and bit by bit draws the other pilots into her club as well, and they may be responsible for stopping an alien invasion...

Rinne no Lagrange - Kamogawa Days - OAV

Rinne no Lagrange 2 12 more episodes

Rio - Rainbow Gate! 13 episodes Rio is a dealer at a gambling hotel who is easily the favorite of the place. She works hard to please the customers, and people have had winning streaks thanks to her. She is also a holder of one of the 13 legendary "Gate Cards", a collection of magical playing cards that when all 13 are put in the same place, the holder has a wish granted. The last gambler to hold all 13 cards was Rio's mother, who won them and then scattered them to the 4 corners of the Earth. Now someone is conspiring to bring all of the cards to the same place - the casino where Rio works - in a bid to gain immeasurable power. Can a simple if gifted gambler stop them?

R.O.D. TV 26 episodes the TV series version of Read or Dead - actually takes place sometime later than the OAV series. Our heroine has vanished, but a friend of hers who happens to be a writer is doing a book signing in Hong Kong, when she meets three sisters who have the same talent with paper as the star of the OAV series. Mayhem ensues. GREAT series!

Romeo X Julet 24 episodes A most amazing re-imagining of the classing Romeo & Juliet story, featuring characters from other plays, Willie himself (as himself) and a very complicated politicalstructure. A damned fine show.

Rosario + Vampire 13 episodes The anime version of the manga. Not as dark, and more of a "monster of the week" type of anime.

Rosario + Vampire Capu 2 - 13 more episodes and the story continues.

Rose of Versailles (Lady Oscar) 1-8

Roukyuu-bu! 12 episodes This is the story of a good basketball player who begins to attend a great basketball high school when the program is suspended. He is despondent and ready to give up the game, when his older sister (who is a teacher) convinces him to take a look at coaching a team of 5th grade girls - mostly novices but one with real talent. Can he turn these girls into a force to be reckoned with without becoming a lolicon?

Rozen Maiden Traumend - 12 episodes the sequal to Rozen Maiden

Rozen Maiden Ouverture – 2 more episodes in the same world

Rurouni Kenshin - 94 episodes, 4 OAVs, 2 Movies. Interesting Samuari Drama. Just came in.

Ruroni Kenshin - Shin Kyoto-hen Zenpan - Homura no Ori OAV

S.A. - Special A 24 episodes - I absolutely love this one. It's about the lives and loves of the top 7 students at a premier school - their grades are so good that they get their own uniforms and can set their own class schedules. The main focus is on the top 2, a man who is very privileged and excels in everything, and the girl from a poor background who is right behind him. He obviously love her, but she's oblivious to the whole thing. Fun and funny series.

Saber Marionette J to X  - 27 episodes  - yeah, yeah, I know, this is the third series and I don't have the other two. I also haven't watched it. Pbbbhht!

Saikano - 13 episodes

Sailor Moon  - yes, all 5 series (200 episodes, 4 movies, 3 specials  - this one qualifies as a guilty pleasure. My kids love the show and so do I. Give me more Sailor Saturn!

Saint October 26 episodes this one is a bit over the top - about three girls who even call themselves the "loli girls" who fight against organized crime. Well, it's kind of organized. Oh yes, they're magical, and they're protecting an alien disguised as an 8 year old boy.

Saint Seiya - 114 TV episodes, 4 movies - a group of young men fight for the right to use powers given from the constellations, who then battle each other for the title of best fighter. Sakamichi n Apollon - 12 episodes This is an astonishingly heartfelt and beautiful story about w slight and timid young man named Bon who goes to live with his aunt and cousin while his father is touring as a concert pianist in 1963 (the mother is long out of his life). He's a pretty good pianist himself, but he's moved around a lot and is used to having no friends. Then he discovers that the class bully, named Sen, someone he has already had an issue with, is a gifted jazz drummer. He discovers in himself a love of jazz and transforms himself into a jazz pianist, and along with Sen they develop into an amazing friendship that transforms both of their lives. A truly amazing show, and for all of 12 episodes it packs one hell of a punch and has a great soundtrack, featuring real jazz of the era. PUt this on your must-see list.

Saki - 25 episodes A show about a high school Mahjong team and the prodigy who joins them (even though she doesn't initially want to) in order to attempt to make the national championships and meet the sister she hasn't seen in years. The animeis about the journey.

Sakura Diaries  - 12 episodes - This one was okay, but the ending was a bit unsatisfying. It starts rough but gets a lot better as it goes. A story that make you root for cousins to fall in love. ^_^

Sakura Wars  - 43 episodes, 1 movie - Haven't watched it yet but it looks good.

Sakura Wars New York - 6 OAVs

Samurai 7 13-26 (continued from the fansubs)

Sasamekikoto - 13 episodes There's one fairly flighty girl in class who is an out of the closet lesbian, and her best friend has been helping her try to find true love. Only thing is, her best friend has a huge crush on her and she's completely oblivious. A well-done series.

School Rumble Ichi Gakki Hushuu 2 OAVs

School Rumble Ni Gakki 26 episodes

Seikai no Senki  - 23 episodes

Sekirei - 12 episodes not as good as the manga, and moved the story far too fast, but a fun little show about 108 fighters and the people they have to meet in order to increase their fighting skills. The last one standing gets to live with her partner. Alas, our hero has FOUR Sekirei fighting for him, plus a number of others who are allies. And most of them have enormous chests...

Seitokai no Ichizon - Hekiyou Gakuen Seitokai Gijiroku - 12 episodes this is a fun and lightweight little show that spends most of its time making fun of other shows, while trying to tell the story of a studen body council about to break up because one student is graduating and two are moving away...

Seitokai Yakuindomo 13 episodes, 2 OAVs The tale of a high school boy who attends a school only because it's close to his home - only to discover that it only went co-ed a couple of years ago and that there are very few boys there. He soon finds himself on the student council - the only boy amongst a group of mildly crazy girls...

Sen to Chihiro no Kami Kakushi - Spirited Away - The only thing on this list I actually saw in Japan (aside from an episode of Prince of Tennis). One Great movie. I was on a train heading for my hotel from a meeting about a TV show when I saw a movie theater in Ueno playing this. I hopped off the train and spent the next 2 1/2 hours entranced. The DVD is great too, with tons of extras and previews, and the entire movie in storyboards.

Senki Zesshou Symphogear 13 episodes This is the story of a young girl who is badly wounded in an attack on a concert, not realizing that the girl group she has gone to see are also superheroes. When one dies saving her, because she can sing she eventually takes some of her abilities and takes her place, which doesn't make everyone happy...

Sengoku Otome - Momoiro Paradox 13 episodes a young ditzy girl fins herself transported to the time of the first great Shogun warlord and his court - expect that they've all been turned into buxom women...

Sennen Joyuu - Millinium Actress - Movie - this one was great! About an actress remembering her roles, and how a single incident from her youth affected her entire career and every performance she ever gave. Has a great technique to bring you into her movie roles by stepping in and out of them as the movie progresses. By the director of Perfect Blue – who has more talent than most regular film directors.

Sentou Yousei Shoujo Tasukette! Mave-chan

Serial Experiments Lain  - 16 episodes - this one is so cool you'll need a scraper to get the ice off your screen. About a girl who may be a world-class hacker, or an experiment created by the internet, or just a girl who hears voices in electricity. Like I said, very cool stuff.

Seven of Seven 25 episodes, 1 OAV - A young girl named Nana is living with her grandfather, the wacky inventor, while her parents are working in the US (San Francisco, to be specific), when an experiment of her grandfather's splits her into seven almost identical versions of herself - each with a different aspect of her personality. Will Nana get into the high school of her dreams? Will she be with her secret crush? Will the 7 Nana's become an unstoppable crime-fighting force? Silly, but lots of fun.

Sex Ward - 2 OAVs

Sex Warrior Pudding - 2 OAVs

Sexy Angels Return to the Court - 2 episodes - Yes, it's Hentai, supposedly about a volleyball championship, but face it, it's porn.

Sexy Commando - 50 short episodes

Sexfriend - 2 OAVs - yes, it's hentai. Duh... but a bit cuter than most and if you’re into it it’s worth the price of admission.

Shakugan No Shana - 24 episodes, 1 OAV and a few extras - This was a fun series based on a series of sci-fi novels about a girl hunting down a specific type of demon. Unfortunately, most of the people she protects are already dead and just don't know it yet. Then she meets one of these dead one called a "Torch" who figures out he's already dead....

Shakugan No Shana the Movie (Director's Cut) - looks like a re-cap of the first storyline, with a few extras.

Shakugan no Shana II 24 more episodes picking up right where the previous series left off.

Shakugan no Shana S 4 OAVs bridging the storyline until the final series.

Shakugan no Shana III 24 episodes - literally picking up only seconds after the end of the last series, this brings everything to a final conclusion, and ties back to the very first episode in a way unexpected.

Shangri-la 24 episodes this is the complex tale of two societies, one living in protection and one out in the open after a natural disaster in Japan in the somewhat distant future. In the outside lives a young girl, freshly out of prison, who is the supposed leader of the rebels trying to equalize everything. She has mad skills, but she really doesn't want anything to do with the rebel fight, although many of them are her friends. And then of course, things change. Pretty good and deeply layered story.

Shigofumi - 12 episodes, plus a DVD only episode - how would you react if a young girl brought you a letter from someone dead? Fun series, all too short.

Shikabane Hime Aka - 13 episodes. Oori discovers that his adopted older brother is actually a demon fighter - specifically demons who were once human called Shikabane. He runs with a pretty high-school aged girl (at least she looks that way) named Makina who is a demon herself, but one who tries to kill the demons who killed her. She is that rare Shikabane Hime, a Shikabane born to fight other Shikabane.

Shikabane Hime Kuro - 12 episodes. Taking off immediately at the end of the first series,  Makina's bond is transferred to Oori, but there is trouble brewing - the elders of the Shikabane fighters don't want him to assume the bond, and the villains are getting even stronger. Can Oori and Makina beat them back? And what is the secret of the Cat that first brought Oori into this battle, and why don't the elders want him fighting Shikabane?

Shiki 22 episodes, plus 2 more DVD only episodes a group of vampires have moved into town and are killing and then reviving everyone, turning the town into a town of people like themselves. The question is, why - and can anything be done to stop them?

Shin Ace wo Narae - 25 episodes A do-over of the original series, with more of the story from the manga

Shin Prince of Tennis 13 episodes This series is about a special camp the following summer after Ryouma and the gang win the title. It ends annoyingly too soon.

Shinigami no Ballad - 6 episodes Of course the Japanese would come up with a cute little girl as the grim reaper ^_^

Shining Hearts - Shiawase no Pan - 12 episodes

Shinrei Tantei Yakumo 13 episodes - The tale of a young man who thanks to an odd effect of his left eye can see ghosts and spirits who haven't made the transition to the otherside. This allows him to consult with the local police, but there is a case that has a direct impact on his life...

Shinryaku! Ika Musume - 12 episodes - a young squid takes the form of a young girl in order to teach the humans a lesson about how they're damaging her ocean, only to find herself embroiled in comic adventures and working at a local seaside restaurant after damaging the wall...

Shinryaku!! Ika Musume 2 - 12 episodes - yes, the story continues.

Shion no Ou 22 episodes

Shoka OAV

Shoukoushi Cedie 43 episodes

Shouwa Monogatari - 13 episodes This is a wonderful slice-of-life drama about a family in Japan in 1964 - the year the Shinkansen started running, the year the Olympics came to Tokyo, and the year Japan finally came back to being a world player after 20 years of reconstruction. Also the year I was born, interestingly enough. Marvelous little anime showing the conflict between the older generation who lived through world war II and the new one looking at the modernization of Japan - and their own roles in it all.

Shuffle - 24 episodes

Shuffle! Memories - 12 more episodes and an OAV - kind of a recap of the previous eps

Shura no Toki - 26 episodes

Shuusaku - a three episode Hentai about a janitor who is blackmailing every girl in a private boarding school into having sex with him. He's a sadist. By the time he finally gets what he deserves the sexiness has long worn off and it's just a dull study in sadism. Don't go there.

Silent Mobieus 26 episodes, 2 movies

Simoun 26 episodes, plus a Seiyuu Special This one is hard to describe. Picture a world where everyone is born female, but can become male later if they choose. Now picture special priestesses who can fly special machines that can only be started with a kiss. Now throw in a war. Strange but fun show - lots of eye candy.

Sister Princess  - 26 episodes  - I haven't watched this yet, but it has the same 'cute - look as Card Captor Sakura!

Sister Princess Re Pure - another 13 episodes in the same story

Sketchbook ~full colors~ 13 episodes a simple slice of life anime about a high school art club, told from the point of view of a girl who chooses to be quiet in class. And some of the neighborhood cats.

Sket Dance 77 episodes, 1 Special - If you've got a problem, a dream, or a problem that needs solving your best bet is to seek out Sket Dance, a group of three students who specialize in helping people in just about any situation - although their methods will no doubt surprise you... Eposide 26 is a Gintama cross-over episode.

Skip Beat! 25 episodes A great series about a woman who is dumped by her up-and-coming boyfriend who is an entertainer. She decided to get revenge by becoming an entertainer herself, with the goal of surpassing him. And along the way, she discovers not only her true calling, but a lost love.

The Sky Crawlers - movie - this one is about a group of fighter pilots and their base commander, and specifically follows one young fighter who replaces another after he is killed. But the former pilot's death is something of a mystery, and both the new pilot and the commander are emotionally dead people who refer to themselves as children. The flihgt and battle sequences are some of the best animation you will ever see. And then at the 1 hour 34 minute mark the whole plot goes sideways in a way that you do not see coming, and the movie becomes about something else... Highly recommended.

Sky Girls - OAV a quick OAV about a group of young girl soldiers who fly specialized mechanical machines against monsters. More fun than it sounds.

Sky Girls TV 26 episodes, 9 DVD specials The TV version of the OAV above, that starts at the formation of the group and their recruitment into the defense forces, all the way through their final mission. A lot of fun really. The DVD specials are pretty funny.

Smile Precure 48 episodes - The 9th (!) Precure series.

Snow Sugar - 24 episodes

Softenni - 12 episodes There is actually another type of competitive tennis in Japanese high school - the balls are different and all games are played as doubles. This is the tale of a small team attempting to wint heir local championship in Hokkaido. Only problem is that one way or another, they're all nuts.

Softenni DVD Version - 12 episodes The same show, but with more skin.

sola 15 episodes - a simple love story in the vein of Claanad and others that quickly evolves into something else - and the girl isn't human and maybe some others in the story aren't either...

Solty Rei - 24 episodes

Someday's Dreamers (Mahou tsukai ni Taisetsu na no) 12 episodes- a young girl named Yume has come to Tokyo to learn how to control her magical power (magic is tightly regulated and controlled in this version of Tokyo). And maybe teach her teacher something about himself in return. Slow character piece, but quite good.

Sora no Manimani - 12 episodes a young man moves to a town he once lived in and is startled to discover that the girl responsible for him breaking his leg is still around, and wants to recruit him for the astronomy club...

Sora no wo to - 12 episodes, (actually 14 when you count the DVD only episodes) - this is a truly surprising tale about a girl who comes to a distant military outpost to learn how to play the trumpet, and the 4 other female officers who man the outpost, a remnant of a war nearly forgotten but soon about to make a return into their lives in ways that none of them can imagine...This is an amazing show.

Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo - 26 episodes a kind of bizarre story about a girl recruited by an AI to be his counterpart, and the fight he has with his siblings, and the search for a group of humans who disappeared years ago...

Sora wo Miageru Shoujo no Hitomi ni Utsuru Sekai 9 episodes

Soredemo Machi ha Mawatteru 12 episodes - this is a fun little series about a girl who works in a maid cafe owned by her grandmother, who don't know the slightest thing about maid cafes, and her odd assortment of friends in the small town where they live.

Soukou no STRAIN - 13 episodes - A very interesting one about a war and the conflict between a brother and sister. Oh, and mechas and loli-dolls too ^_^

Soultaker - 13 episodes and a few omake

Sousei no Aquarion 26 episodes

Sousei no Aquarion OAV series - 3 OAVs

Space Pirate Mito 2 – 13 more episodes - Aoi-kun's wierd genetic code has turned him into a girl, but that hasn't slowed him down. He's now the Empress of the galaxy but still hasn't finished high school. And now someone from the distant past has been resurrected to challenge for the throne. And she's insane. Fun show.

Spaceship Yamato TV - 78 episodes - this is the old series Starblazers from the 1970s, in its original form. True space opera - with the grand old battleship Yamato dredged out of its grave to save the Earth, and only 400 days to do it in. Great series. Okay, technically three great series, but the continuity works.

Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection - movie This is the first movie in what appears to be a series of movies set 25 years after the end of the TV series. Godai is still a legend but is no longer in control of much. His wife has been missing for a few years, and their daughter is barely speaking to him - and then catastrophe strikes in the form of yet another group of aliens trying to destroy earth and Godai brought back home to try and take as many people as he can to a new home...

Speed Grapher 24 episodes

Spice and Wolf - 13 episodes - this is about a traveler/trader named Rolenz in a vaguely midievil period who discovers a wolf goddess riding in his wagon and agrees to let her travel with him. It's a pretty simple story, although a lot of time is spent on the economics of trading when each town uses a different monetary system. All in all, it was fun to watch.

Spice and Wolf II - 1 OAV and 12 more episodes, one DVD special short the story continues and (maybe) resolves.

Spiral (bonds of reason) 25 episodes - This is about a high school boy with the skills of Sherlock Holmes, and no real desire to use them. He's compared to the older brother who vanished 2 years previous while working on a case. But it appears that current events are about to drag him and his brother's wife (a homicide detective) into the old case. A young girl who is the school newspaper reporter also gets involved early on. My copy is taped direct from the broadcast, including commercials (the first episode was broadcast during a Typhoon, and has weather reports all over it). Acquired from a shop in Roppongi that I have a relationship with. It's kinda moody, so I recommend watching in short spurts.

Spriggan - movie

Sprite: Between Two worlds  - 2 OAVS  - This one's a Hentai wannabe.

Starship Operators 13 episodes

Steamboy the Movie (from the creator of Akira) Visually very stunning, about a boy who’s grandfather and father are fighting over the use of an incredible steam engine – and the effects the technology would have on Victorian England.

Steam Detectives  - 26 episodes - picture if you will a world where the internal combustion engine was never invented, and everything runs on steam. Now throw in mechas and detectives. Kinda strange. I really didn't enjoy this one until the last 5 episodes or so, when it really started to kick ass. And I never saw the end coming. On that alone I recommend the series.

Steel Angel Kurumi  - 24 episodes, 1 special

Steel Angel Kurumi 2 - 12 more episodes!

Stein's;Gate 25 episodes a truly unique anime about a mad scientist who has discovered the secret to time travel and the women who surround his life - or are some of the secret agents trying to stop him? Or steal his secret? Or is he in another time-line? This one was bloody awesome. There will be a movie to follow.

Step-sister - 2 OAVs

Stop! Hibari-kun 35 episodes

Straight Jacket 3 OAVs - a basic fighter versus monsters series.

Stratos 4 - 13 episodes

Stratos 4 Advance - 8 episodes

Stratos 4 Code X – 2 episodes

Strawberry Panic 26 episodes

Strike Witches - 12 episodes and a 9 minute prequel short - a silly and ecchi little story about a young girl with magical powers whose father invented a way for young girls called witches to fight against an extraterrestrial enemy that invaded in the middle of WWII and overtook Europe. The father has long since been declared dead, and one of his disciples has come to Japan to recruit her to fight in the war. Oh, and the women don't wear pants. A fun series, actually, and I would bet on a sequel.

Strike Witches DVD version 12 episodes a somewhat more hentai version of the same story.

Strike Witches 2-Ki, 12 episodes - as suspected, a sequel. The original aliens have overlords, and they've begun attacking Europe in force...

Strike Witches the Movie - the first in what appears will be a series of movies that take place 4 months after the 2nd series.

Suika - some hentai

Suite Precure 48 episodes, 1 movie - the 8th Precure series!

Sukeban Deka 2 OAVs

As the world starts to fall apart thanks to the cyber attack, it turns out that the girl's family are all involved in saving the world one way or another, and they find themselves trying to prevent world war III from within an on-line game. Fun stuff.

Sumomomo Momomo 22 episodes unlikely title, funny show

Super Defense Force Mao-chan - 26 episodes of weirdness from the Creator of Love Hina

Super Doll Licca-chan  - through episode 19 (VHS) (got bored with it - although I may resume this one now that I've seen a couple of later episodes)

Super Doll Licca-chan - 52 episodes (digital)

Suzuka - 26 episodes

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu - 14 episodes This is one of the most fun anime I've seen in a long time. The episodes go out of order, and some of what happens is just plain nuts. Suzumiya Haruhi wants to meet an alien. Little does she know that she's being watched by one, and a time traveler, and an ESPer, and others.... and the story is told from the point of view of a perfectly normal high school senior. This one was fun.

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu (2009) 1-28 so a few years after the original run they decide to re-run this series, but fill it with more episodes and run it in chronological order. Still as fun as ever, even if the "endless eight" series tries your patience.

Suzumiya Haruhi-chan no Yuuutsu 25 episodes. This is a SD version of the Haruhi tale, with little short stories. Awfully funny stuff.

Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu - movie - a 2 hour and 41 minute movie where suddenly the world as Kyon knows it suddenly doesn't exist - it was altered three years prior and everyone he knows from the SOS club is now a different person, and Kyon has to figure out how to restore everything on his own...

Suzumiya Haruhi no Gekiseu - a live action series of concerts featuring the cast of the anime

Sword Art Online - 25 episodes

Sword of the Stranger - movie

Tactical Roar - 13 episodes that should have been a few more. It was great for 12, but 13 seemed awfully rushed. It's about an all female crew of a ship patrolling the high seas for modern day pirates and terrorists. The women and girls are all thrown for a loop when the little brother of the Captian comes aboard to do computer upgrades....

Tamayura - 4 OAVs - this is a great and simple little anime about a young girl trying to find the place where her deceased father took a famous photograph.

Tamayura ~Hitotose~ 12 episodes and here is the TV series continuation of the OAV series.

Tiamon Blues 2 OAVS

Tari Tari 13 episodes

Tegami Bachi - 25 episodes - the tale of a young man prone to emotional outbursts who decides to follow in the footsteps of his mentor/idol and become a "Letter Bee", who carries the mail in the wasteland between towns, and to try and find out where he disappeared do...

Unfortunately, another girl in her class who is also Psychic figured it out before she did and wants to make her life miserable. Or will they become friends and partners in adventure?

Temptation - some hentai

Tenchi Muyo OAV Series - The first series of 13 OAVs

Tenchi Muyo TV  - 26 episodes  - this one gets old to me...

Tenjou Tenge - 24 episodes - I don't get into fighting anime much, but this one was fun, and ended too soon. If you only ever watch one fighting anime, watch Air Master, but this one is a close second and has a GREAT opening song.

Tenjou Tenge Ultimate Fight - 2 OAVs - continuing to the final fight - they play like two more TV episodes.

Tenkousei  - 4 OAVs  - a simple little romance, with a touch of Hentai. Fine title.

Tenkuu Danzai Skelter Heaven OAV

Terra e... 24 episodes, plus the episode 15.5 special - this is based upon a very old manga about a growing conflict between people with ESP and people without. a pretty good series.

Tetsuwan Atom (1980 version) 51 episodes - Yes, I know there are 52 episodes but the versions of the DVDs released outside of Japan don't have the episode called "Atom's first love". I'm searching for that, which is hard as the DVDs are out of print.

Tetsuwan Birdy Decode - 13 episodes - this one is about a young man who is accidentally killed by an alien named Birdy while she was hunting for a bad alien. So he is temporarily residing in her body while she clones up a new one for him. Thing is, she can change their bodies at will, and is still hunting bad guys, but now here on Earth. This is a re-creation of an original story by the creator of Astro Boy, updated for modern times.

Tetsuwan Birdy Decode:02 - 12 episodes - in this sequel this time is from Bridy's point of view, as she discovers an old friend is living on Earth, and people responsible for a terrorist attack from her childhood have also shown up.

The Third - Aoi Hitomi no Shoujo 24 episodes - I'm not really sure how to explain this one. It's about a girl named Hanoka, who travels the desert with her computer/tank companion on various missions for the government, or a race of aliens, or for herself. She meets a strange man named Ix who may be shaping her destiny, but the aliens are looking for "The Third" - a legendary person of amazing power. But Hanoka has a secret all her own...

This is My Master 13 episodes

Time Slip 10,000 Nen Prime Rose - movie

To Aru Majutsu no Index 24 episodes - based on the best-selling series of novels, this is about a young man named Touma, who in a present-day world of magic users is completely without magic talent - and can in fact cancel out magic with his right hand. But his world is thrown upside down when he discovers a young woman dressed as a priestess draped over his balcony railing named "Index", who has no memory of how she got there. This one is great.

To Aruy Majurst no Index II 24 episodes - The third series (Railgun was the 2nd) and the ever increasingly complex tale - this time while focusing on Touma talking more about the schism in the church that led to Index first showing up on Touma's balcony in the first place. I am willing to bet large money that there will be another series or two.

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun 24 episodes, 1 OAV the spin-off/sequel to To Aru Majutsu no Index follows one of the minor characters, the junior high girl who may be the strongest esper this particular universe has seen (you remember her if you saw Index - the one who could control electricity) and her life and friends.

In truth though, he's a sweetheart, but no one knows it. Taiga is a tiny sweet-looking girl in his class who is actually a whirlwind with a temper. Taiga is in love with Ryuuji's best friend. Ryuuji is in love with Taiga's best friend. Neither one has the confidence to confess what they feel. Touch  - 101 episodes, 5 movies - This one is one of the greats. Don't let ANYONE tell you about the plot until you've watched at least 25 episodes – and you have the courtesy to do the same. The show makes a major turn at that point and when I watched it (without having been warned) it was the greatest surprise I've ever had in an Anime show. This is the most requested show for trades on my list.

One he dates, one is his best friend's girlfriend, and one comes to live with his family after her parents die. Nice little story with a couple of interesting twists.

Tsuki ha Higashi ni Hi ha Nishi ni 17 episodes

Tsukiyomi Moon Phase 26 episodes - a story about a CUTE vampire?

Tsuritama 12 episodes - This is the strangest show of the spring 2012 season, about a socially inept boy who has moved with his grandmother to an island who is befriended by another boy who says he is an alien, is classmates with a third who is a fishing champion, and is under surveillance by a half Indian man who may be working for the government (along with his duck named Tapioca). The plot? The alien is trying to recruit the inept boy to help save the world by fishing - and he's never done it. It's surprisingly good, and the animation is unique.

Twin Signal - 3 episodes

Uchuu Show e Youkoku! (Welcome to the Space Show) movie - From the creators of Kamichu comes this great movie about a group of grade-school kids who in the course of trying to find an escaped rebbit stumble across a crop circle, an alien dog, and are then swept up in an adventure that first takes them to the moon, and then the outer reaches of the solar system to stop a power-hungry entertainer with a craving for Wasabi. Unbelievably awesome.

UFO Robo Grendizer - 74 episodes

Umineko no Naku Koro ni 26 episodes - many years ago one man made a deal with a witch and as a result becaume very rich. It's now the 1980s, and the next two generations of his family have been invited out for a bloody test of survival to be run by that same witch - or maybe it's a competition for her to prove over and over that she is indeed a witch to the one grandson who refuses to believe - and she'll kill the family as many times as necessary to prove her point...

UN-GO 11 episodes, 1 OAV - this is an odd one, about a young man who is something of a consulting detective - who sometimes works with a respected genius detective, but for the most part has a traveling companion that he met during the war that ended just a few years back who can force someone to tell the truth, but only once...

Upotte!! 11 episodes. A new teacher comes to a renowned middle school to teach the girls there - but he's not yet aware that these girls are all anthromorphized assault weapons...

Urusei Yatsura Movies 1-5. Yeah, I know there's a lot more out there. I've got over 100 episodes in the commercial U.S. release though.

Urusei Yatsura TV 196 episodes, 12 OVAs - I finally have them all!!!!! Bwahahahahahahahah!!!!!

Usagi Drop 11 episodes  This is a great little show about a man naimed Dikichi who goes home for his grandfather's funeral and discovers that he has a hidden child named Rin who is now 7 years old. The entire family is scandalized and has no clue what to do with this as the mother is nowhere to be found, but Daikichi realizes that his family isn't doing anything and decides to take her home to raise her himself - despite being single and having no experience with children. This is where a truly heartwarming story about Daikichi and Rin begins. Great anime based on a great manga.

Ushio to Tora - 10 OAVs

Usigi-chan de Cue! 3 episodes

Vampire Knight - 12 episodes picture if you will a school with day and night classes, and everyone in the night class is a vampire. One of those vampires is the leader of all vampires. Protecting the secret of the night class is two of the day class students, one of whom is under the protection of said vampire and the other who has a past with vampires that may someday kill him. Now make it a gothic romance.

Vampire Knight Guilty - 13 episodes. Picking up where the last series left off, this one answers almost every question raised by the first series. Well worth the time.

Venus Versus Virus - 12 episodes This one could have been better; a girls versus monsters anime with the girls having a connection they're not even aware of. It felt like it ended an episode too soon.

Very Private Lesson - 2 OAVs

Vexille

Video Girl Ai  - 6 OAVs - Cute, but only goes through the first 5 volumes of a 13 volume Manga. About a girl who jumps out of a video into a boy's lap. That was planned. What was unplanned was that the boy's VCR was faulty, and the girl comes out different that pictured on the video.

Viper's Creed - 12 episodes the tale of a group of mecha drivers who patrol the streets outside of a major city trying to keep robots and hackers at bay, unaware that there is a conspiricy led by their own boss to set them up as the villians...

Vision of Escaflowne Movie  - somewhat different from the TV series

Voogie's Angel - 3 episodes

Wagaya no Oinari-sama 24 episodes

War of the Raccoons (Ponpoko) - movie - This one's part of the Disney deal with Studio Ghibili, finally released in the summer of 2005. The story works on a pure Disney level. Well, except for the raccoon balls thing. Serious Cajones! The raccoons are simply trying to stop developers from ruining their home....

Watashi to Watashi - Futari no Lotte 29 episodes

Weiβ Kruez - 26 TV episodes and 2 OAVs - SERIOUSLY hardcore. Gotta love a show where the good guys are assassins using a flower shop as a front, get their missions from a.................spoilers follow................ Police Chief who happens to be the younger brother of the next Prime Minister - who is the BAD GUY! Hella fun.

Weiβ Kruez Gluhen, 13 episodes - New series, and a sequel of sorts - ... Aya is working with some new recruits and the others don't even start showing up until episodes 5 and 6, and it's clear that Omi has left the gang. However, bit by bit their separate missions start to cross paths. It starts out looking like a parable for the rise of Hitler (right down to referring to the bad guy as Fuhrer) but then goes in a direction not expected. Great stuff. The characters have been redesigned but the way they operate and even the voice talent is the same as before. And this series is DARKER than the previous one!!!!!! I won't tell you about the ending, but it is NOT ambiguous.

Welcome to the NHK ni Youkoso! 24 episodes

Wellber no Monogatari - Sisters of Wellber 13 episodes - a pretty straightforward anime about a thief who is escorting a princess across a continent, with some political intrigue and a couple of funny characters. I enjoyed it.

Wellber no Monogatari - Sisters of Wellber II 13 more episodes - now it's the trip back home and the hunt for the killers of Tina's parents. It's best to look at the two series as a single arc.

White Album - 13 episodes this tells the story of a new idol and her boyfriend, a college student starting to feel left behind. Remarkably good stuff. There will be a sequel in 2010.

White Album II - 13 episodes picks up right where the prior series leaves off, and we find out that many of the things we thought we knew actually mean other things...

Wife with Wife - some hentai

Wings of Rean - 6 episodes

Winter Garden – 2 episodes

Winter Garden OAV

Witchblade - 24 episodes

Wolverine - 12 episodes - an interesting take on Marvel Comic's Wolverine, and the 2nd of 2 series (the first was Iron Man, which I didn't collect) to be turned into an anime. Instead of pining over Jean Grey, he's pining over an old flame named Mariko, who happens to be the daughter of a murderous Yakuza and perhaps the best swordsman in the world - who wants to marry off his daughter to a scheming arms dealer to strengthen his empire. Logan wants to rescue Mariko, and winds up being helped  by the daughter of someone the Yakuza murdered when she was a child and he was just a hired gun...

Working!! 13 episodes - this is the tale of a small family restaurant and its oddball staff, as told by the newest hire - a fairly rational young man who is used to the madness around him thanks to his 4 sisters and who also has a liking for all things small, including the Sempai who arranged for him to get the job...

Working'!! 13 episodes - a second season!

Yakushijiyashuei no Kaikijikenbo - Ryoko's Case File - 13 episodes

Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge 25 episodes

Yami no Matsuei  - 13 episodes

Yawara! - Episodes 1 through 99 are from laser disc, currently the best available format. Episodes 100 through 124 are from the original TV broadcast, commercials and all, movies 1 and 2. A great series overall - the ending gets compressed a bit, but the second movie completes it just as it should be. DVDs are now out in Japan, but it's over $1000 to collect them. I think I'm going to have to wait.

Yawara 1-40 DVD, 41-124 Electronic Versions.

Yawara! Zutto Kimi no Koto ga - the second movie in digital format

Yawaraka Sangokushi Tsukisase!! Ryofuko-chan 4 OAVS - this amazingly silly series is about a Chinese warrior and his right hand man, his valet, and his horse - magically transported in the middle of a battle to modern-day Japan. Oh, and the warrior and his right hand man are turned into little girls, the valet into a stuffed animal, and the horse - well, is still a horse. Astonishingly silly, kind of ecchi, but loads of fun.

Yoake Mae Yori Ruri-iro na Crescent Love – 12 episodes

Yoiko 20 episodes

Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei - 11 episodes Boy, this one is out there. It's the tale of a young man who knows what he wants out of life - to join a campus club and meet the girl of his dreams, all while preparing for real life. Unfortunately, he gets sidetracked by a man who appoints himself his sidekick. A fortune teller tries to point him in the right direction (and charges more for her services with each episode), but as he realized his failure and finally begins to understand the clue that he's overlooked, he is sent back in time to repeat what he did, but with a different club. Or are we seeing parallel worlds, and our protagonist need to figure which reality is real? With a killer soundtrack and unusual animation style, this was one of the grand experiments (and a successful one) of 2010.

Yoku Wakaru Gendai Mahou - 12 episodes, plus a DVD only episode. Imagine that magic exists in the real world, and the only reason we haven't really dug into it is because we need to understand binary...

Yomigaeru Sora - Rescue Wings - 12 episodes, a great little slice of life anime about a young man who has just joined Japan's version of the Coast Guard as a Helicopter pilot, and his trials and tribulations to earn the trust of the people he works with. Good series

Yoroshiku Mechadoc 30 episodes.

Yosuga no Sora - 12 episodes - A high-school aged brother and sister move to a small town where their grandfather was the local doctor after the death of their parents. They're alone but people in the town know them, and they're trying to get on with their lives. Okay, that's the background. Actually, this is a made-for-cable show based on an Ero-game and is mostly about the brother of the siblings getting laid. After conquering one girl, the show even moves back to a prior save point and moves the story to a different girl, just like an ero-game. A surprising amount of nudity in this one, including in the comedic shorts shown after the main show.

Yosuga no Sora DVD Version - 12 episodes. Yes, believe it or not, some stuff was censored in the TV release.

Yotsunoha 2 OAVs - a nice little effort about 4 friends from jr. high who each went to different high schools, but they buried a time capsule. Now they're all high school seniors and are meeting again to dig up the capsule - only someone beat them to it.

You're Under Arrest  - 78 episodes - The animation quality deteriorates the further you get into the first season, but the storylines still smoke. This is actually 2 series  - the first of which is actually comprised of the original 4 OAVs plus another 48 episodes.

You're Under Arrest - NO Mercy - OAV. What would it be like if the team were part of the L.A.P.D? Well, here's the answer...

You're Under Arrest Full Throttle - 23 episodes another series in the long-running story. It looks to me like they're finally heading towards a resolution, but it might take another series or two to get there. I love this one.

Yozakura Quartet 12 episodes - in Japan there is a city that is protected by vary old magic; a place where magical creatures and humans coexist in peace. Meet the young people/magical creatures responsible for maintaining that peace.

Yozakura Quartet - Hoshi no Umi 3 OADs - a continuation of the story, focusing on the strange girl we met at the start of the TV series.

Yu Yu Hakusho  - 112 episdoes, A bunch of OAVs (I haven't watched them yet so I don't know how many)

Yumeiro Patissiere - 50 episodes

Yumekui Merry - 13 episodes Based on the manga of the same name, this is the story of a high school boy who has recurring nightmares and has the ability to see when others are having them too, who meets a girl named Merry who comes from the land of dreams - although she has no idea how she wound up in the human world or how to get back. The two of them team up to try and return her home, and to also find out who has been stealing the dreams and memories of other people...

Yuruani? 22 episodes This is an odd experiment with short story animations carried over several weeks - oh, and it's all done in flash animation.

Yurumates - 1 OAV a simple little OAV about a boarding house.

Yurumates 3D 13 episodes

Yurumates 3D+ 13 more episodes

Yuruyuri 12 episodes The slice-of-life adventures of 3 girls who have known each other since grade school who have formed their own high school club, then gained a 4th member, plus the various other girls in their school who they interact with. Pretty funny stuff actually.

Yuruyuri 2 12 more episodes

Yuusha Reideen - 50 episodes This is a mech series from the 1970s. A sequel was done in 2007, just called Reideen

X OAV - A bit of back story for the series..........

X TV - 24 episodes. Holy COW this one is so COOL!!! As good as the Manga and sticks with the plot of the Manga through volume 17 - then takes a couple of WILD twists before the ending. 7 warriors versus 7 warriors battle for the end of the world, but we follow one young man named Kamui who may be on BOTH sides....

Zero no Tsukaima - 3 Princesses no Rondo - 12 more episodes, plus a DVD only episode! And now the third series, which involves an elf witch and rescuing one of their friends from an evil blackmail artist - and possibly the princess as well

Zero no Tsukaima F - 12 more episodes and at last, the series comes to a conclusion. Well worth the ride.

Zetman - 13 episodes This is a fairly violent story that follows a man named Jin from childhood to adulthood, as well as two of his friends, who are brother and sister. The problem is that Jin isn't human but is a lab experiment - something he's not even aware of, and he has been created by a ruthless group of businessmen who created his kind for blood sports. While the others of his kind escaped captivity he was raised as human by one of the scientists. Meanwhile, his friends want to be known as local heroes, and saviors of common people - unaware that their father and grandfather are the men who created the creatures in the first place. A complicated and fast paced story.

Zettai Karen Children 51 episodes this is an hilarious show about 3 young girls who happen to be the strongest ESPer's in the world, recruited to fight ESPer crime by the organization called B.A.B.E.L., and their guardian who has to keep them in check (despite having no psychic powers at all) and keep their identities secret. Animated by the same people who did Hayate no Gotoku - hella fun.

3)      Fansubs  - some of these I won't trade as they're commercially available now. Doesn't mean that the commercially available titles are better than the fansubs  - for example pretty much any fansub of a VIZ title is better because their translations stink. Their Naruto is gawd-awful and the less said about their versions of Ranma and Maison Ikkoku the better. Even the churn-out operation known as Arctic Animation is better than VIZ. I support commercial titles, but will admit to being disappointed at the quality of some of the work, and have worked these past 4 years trying to change that. You'll also notice some duplication of these titles among the raw Japanese I have. When you see a series in progress, the odds are if they're digisubs that I have more episodes than are listed but haven't burned them onto permanent media yet.

2X2 = Shinobuden 12 episodes

3X3 Eyes II  - 3 episodes  - includes an episode so far not available in the U.S.

Abenobachi Mahou Shoutengai 13 episodes

Aim for the Ace! 1-4 (I'm the sponsor of episode 6 of the Technogirls fansub, not yet released). About a young tennis player and her astounding rise through the ranks of her high school, despite the fact that almost no one thinks she is qualified to be on the team.

Aim for the Ace! 1-4 (this is the download version)

Aim for the Ace! Jump High Hiromi! - movie

Air Master  - 27 episodes - Very Interesting.... maybe she's a gymnast, maybe she can fly. But this high-school sophomore, well over six-feet tall, can fight better than anyone. I don't really care much for the "street fighter" genre but I admit that I like this one. It also has the strangest closing credits sequence I've seen in a long time. This show gets downright ODD in spots but it's got me hooked.

Air, The Movie

Aishiteruze Baby! 26 episodes

Ajinu Kaigan Monogatari 4 episodes

Akazukin Chacha  - 76 episodes, 3 OAVs  - I finally finished this one. Is a very young girl the best new wizard in the land? Or is she the product of her VERY eccentric teacher? Loads of fun

The Cockpit  - 3 OAVs  - a great anti-war statement

Cooking Master Boy 1-52, plus a parody fansub -  if you have anime-keep's fansubs be warned, some of them are from the Chinese version. It's actually pretty cool that way, but it might throw you if you're not expecting it. Special thanks to klassy.net for helping me locate some of these. Also, some people will tell you there's 53 episodes. There isn't. Episode 53 is Episode 1 in Korean.

A Young boy named Hikaru digs out his grandfather's old GO board, hoping to sell it, when he notices a stain no one else can see. Because of this he is possessed by a Go master of the Heien period so that he can play his beloved game again. Fun stuff. Avoid the special that has nothing to do with 2004 New Year's. It actually an episode in the 60s.

Kakyuusei 2 13 episodes

Kaleido Star 51 episodes 3 OAVs

Kamakaze Kaitou Jeanne  - 42 episodes  - This one falls apart after a promising start. Read the Manga  - it's well worth the time. It's about a girl who is perhaps the reincarnation of Joan of Arc, who fights demons hiding in works of art.

Kanojo to Kanojo no Neko - This is a marvelous little short film (under 5 minutes) that is the first anime I ever downloaded off the net. The story of a cat and his girl.

Kanon - 13 episodes

Kemono no Souja Erin 50 episodes This tale of a little girl and her mother who care for war dragons in an ancient land comes across like a children's story for a few episodes, then turns quite dark, following the life of the girl as she grows and finds a profession of her own - well worth the time.

Mahou Shoujotai 40 episodes

Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto - Satsu no Sora 12 episodes - this one's neat, about a young girl from Hokkaido who moves to Tokyo to attend a school for magic users. But she's already very powerful, so why does she need to go to school? This one's got a lot of heart, and well worth the effort.

Mahoujin Guruguru 45 episodes

Mail Order Maiden 28 OAV - a mostly harmless Hentai title, although the pissing scene was not my style.

Maria Sama ga Miteru Spring 13 episodes plus some extras

Marine a Go-Go 3 OAVS (Hentai)

Marmalade Boy  - 76 episodes, 1 OAV - well, Tokyo Pop finally admitted they have at least some of the series, if not all of it. But it's going to be hard for them to beat the great fansub done by Tomodachi Anime that I already have.

Melody of Oblivion 24 episodes

Mezzo Forte - 2 episodes - a parody of Mezzo DSA

Moonlight Lady 5 OAVs (hentai)

Moonlight Mile Season 1 - Liftoff - 12 episodes - this is a great show about the exploration of space and the race to colonize the moon. Season one introduces the main characters, a man from Japan and an American soldier who are friends and adventurers, who become key players on different sides of the next space race. Great show, and a second season is on the way.

Moonlight Mile 2nd Season - Touchdown - 14 episodes Continuing where the last series ended, talking about the race for the moon and the entry of the Chinese into the race. This series bloody rocks, and the final episode finally makes you understand the intro to the first series.

Mysterious Thief Saint Tail - 43 episodes

Narutaru - 13 episodes

Neia Under 7 - 13 OAVS

Nuku Nuku Dash!  - 1-4 - would someone out there complete this one already!!??!?

Nurse Angel Ririka SOS  - 35 episodes  - this one ends so abruptly that I'm sure a movie or an OAV was planned. But it never happened. The Manga continues the story a bit further. Yet another magical girl series.

Onegai Twins 12 episodes  - there were rumors of a 13th, but no such luck.

Oniisama e (Brother dear Brother) 39 episodes - I'll get the final 4 episodes as The Technogirls complete it (and a tip o' the hat for such excellent work!) but for now I have another subber's final 4. About the experiences of several girls in a private high school and the social turmoil caused by the sorority that runs things behind the scenes.

But these seven young men are going to bond and become close, with a promise to each other that no corrupt prison system, sadomasochistic guard, or freedom in post world war II Japan can ever change. Great series.

To Heart  - 13 episodes  - Great work by Saachi's subbing this. A simple little character piece, but one of the best in this style.

To Heart, Remember My Memories 13 episodes

Tobira o Akete  - movie  - basic Fantasy Sci-fi Paralell Universe type thing. Don't let the shower scene at the beginning deter you. This title is NOT Hentai.

Tokimeki Memorial - 2 OAVs

Tokyo Mew Mew - 52 episodes

Tokyo Underground - 26 episodes

Triangle Heart 4 OAVs

True Love Story 3 OAVs

Twin Spica 20 episodes

Ultra Maniac OAV - the main series is up above in Raw Japanese

Urda - 5 damned good shorts

Vampire Princess Miyu TV  - 26 episodes  - This is the other Horror title I really like. About a young girl vampire and her protector.

Vandread - 13 episodes this one is a strange mix of traditional animation (characters) and poor computer animation (spaceships and mechas). Looks interesting

Vision of Escaflowne  - 26 episodes  - I got this fansub just before the U.S. release.

W Wish 13 episodes

Wandering With The Wind  - 15 episodes

Wedding Peach  - thru episode 28 - The rest is being collected in the section below. This one's been unfairly persecuted by a number of sources. Sure, it's silly. Sure, it stretches believability. Hey, guess what, it's a CARTOON! Get over it. Besides, I like it. The remainder of the series is in the section below

Welcome to Pia Carrot 2 DX 1-6

Wind - a breath of heart (Christmas Special), 12 TV episodes

Windy Tales 13 - fascinating. The most original animation I've seen in years. A quaint little tale about a group of girls who can use the winds.

Winter Sonata 26 episodes - a great love story and the only Korean anime I own, this is the tale of an architect and a designer who fall in love after rekindling a romance that one of them has forgotten due to an accident when they were in high school...

Witch Hunter Robin 26 episodes

With You - 2 OAVs

Wolf's Rain episodes 30 Episodes - the forests are gone. The wildlife is gone. The wolves have been dead for 200 years, and unfortunately for the human race, they were the only ones who knew how to get to paradise. Or have the wolves assimilated? GREAT one! Music by Kanno Yoko, who also did the music for Cowboy Bebop and Vision of Escaflowne, and features Sakamoto Maya as one of the voices (swoon!).

Wonderful Days - Movie - This one is actually in Korean, but looks quite interesting.

Yakitate Japan 69 episodes

Yokohama Shopping Log - Quiet Country Cafe 2OAVs

You're Under Arrest Special  - 6 OAVs that accompany the TV series.

Yume De Aetara  - 9 short pieces done for TV - not terribly good, unfortunately. The Manga upon which it is based is one of the best - Maison Ikkoku for Grownups. With a couple of misunderstandings that make the ones in Maison Ikkoku seems like child's play. However, your Japanese had better be very good - the Manga has no Furigana!

Yumeria 12 Episodes

Zipang 26 episodes

4)      Commercially Available Titles in the U.S. 'nuff said.

3X3 Eyes  - 4 OAVs

Appleseed (2004) Movie

Bubble Gum Crisis  - 8 OAVs and a music collection  - The great unfinished series. Go Nene!

Bubble Gum Crisis 2040  - 26 episodes  - I waited a long time before picking this one up. A re-do of one of the all-time greats? Please. However, I have to admit that this one smokes. Nene was my favorite character of the original series (I like Redheads) but here Linna is my favorite.

Bubblegum Crash  - 3 OAVs  - the studio's attempt to bring the series to a conclusion after the original creator left. It almost works.

Clamp School Detectives  - 26 episodes  - I like to refer to the Clamp people as 'The Evil Genieses of Cute'. See this one and see if you don't agree.

The Dirty Pair  - 10 OAV's and 3 movies

Dirty Pair Flash  - I've only got the first 3 OAVs. I need to finish this one out.

Devil Hunter Yohko - 6 OAVs The 108th (109th?) consecutive devil Hunter has been born!!!!

Human Crossing Vol. 1-4

Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade - Movie

Key The Metal Idol 15 episodes (.avi)

Kiki's Delivery Service - movie - I own two copies of this one. Subtitled for me (calling Coffee Hot Chocolate, indeed) and a dubbed version for my kids, who were 6 and 1 when it was released. At least the dub features Jeanene Garafolo (hope I spelled that right)

Ghost in the Shell  - movie  - pretty good one, although not as hardcore as the Manga for it.

Ghost Talker's Daydream

Green Legend Ran

Gunsmith Cats - 3 OAVs

Le Portrait de Petite Cossette 3 OAVs

Legend of Himiko (Himiko-den) 12 episodes

Magic Users Club 6 OAVs, 13 TV episodes

Master Keaton 39 episodes

Metal Fighters Miku  - 6 OAVs  - a title about mechanized wrestling? Sure it sounds stupid but it works!

Miami Guns 13 episodes

Moldiver - 6 fairly silly OAVs

My Neighbor Totoro - movie  - okay, this one's dubbed. It's not available subtitled commercially in the U.S.  - also, the U.S. version cuts a scene, so I tend not to watch it. I keep it for the kids, who love it.

Over Drive 26 episodes

Paranoia Agent 13 episodes

Patlabor Original Series - 7 OAVs

Patlabor TV 47 episodes, 1 movie

Patlabor: The Mobile Police: The New Files 16 episodes

Patlabor: WXIII The Movie

Perfect Blue  - movie  - Director's Cut. This one qualifies up there with the best Hitchcock films.

Phantom - movie this one is based upon a DVD game

Plastic Little  - movie  - no, it's not the greatest title. But it has its moments, and more than a fair amount of skin.

Princess 9 - 26 episodes

Project A-ko  - 6 movies (see above)

Ranma  - - I have the first 60 or so episodes on VHS.

Saber Marionette J 25 episodes - okay, I have them all now, all right?

Saber Marionette J Again - 6 OAVs

Space Pirate Mito  - one of the funniest shows you've never heard of. I have episodes 1-13 so far (there are 26 episodes total) - it's being released slowly. I've seen other episodes due to a deal I was working on for another company in Japan. Take my word for it, it's great. The episode where people start turning into oversized Cup Ramen is hysterical.

Speed Racer - 52 episodes

Super Cat Girl Niku Niku  - 6 OAVs  - fun, and very silly. Worth it just for the sequence where Niku Niku first tries to swim.

Urusei Yatsura  - Through episode 104. I'm working on it! ^_^

Vampire Princess Miyu OAVs  - 4 OAVs, no relation to the TV series.

Vision of Escaflowne  - 26 episodes

Voices of a Distant Star - great short movie

Wedding Peach 29-51 plus extras - this is the rest of the series I collected in fansubs. Wohoo!

Wild Arms 22 episodes - pint-size gunslinger, cute vampire, dinosaurs and monsters, space aliens... what's not to like?

World or Narue 1-6

Wordsworth - 5 episode Hentai. Weird story behind how I got this - I didn't buy it, my mom did. She didn't know what it was and just passed the whole box set to me. I have a cool mom. However, this isn't something I would buy - I mean, 5 DVDs for one story. Can you say rip-off? Now then about the plot..... yes, it actually has one. If you dumped the Hentai elements this could actually have been a decent fantasy series. A young man almost ready to come into his own finds himself perhaps as the heir to a fantastic power... or is he the young version of a famous warrior of the past? See, THAT could have been interesting. But a serious amount of sadistic sex has been thrown in - the creators of this one have a thing for beastiality. From the guys who gave us El (above).

X 1999 - The Movie is pretty lousy. Read the Manga, as it's brilliant. The TV series SMOKES though.

Yamamato Yohko: Starship Girl 6 OAVs

Yawara 1-40 I've been supporting the effort to bring this to the US for a long time now, so it's only fitting that I get the DVDs

Bloody Monday 11 episodes - There's a young computer hacker who has been hired by the government to hack into a site of a suspected terrorist, because his own father runs the spy agency involved. But then his father is framed for murder, and the terrorists want to use him as well. How will he weave his way through all of the complications of a madman and his henchmen (and one particularly evil woman) and the spies and counter-spied on each side to save Tokyo from being the victim of a viral agent so powerful that it could kill over 1,000,000 people? And what is the connection to an imprisoned killer who seems to be able to kill from behind bars?

Bloody Monday 2 - 9 episodes - the surviving terrorists from the previous series are back, but at least one of them is now a good guy trying to stop a nuclear terrorist plot, a plot to put handguns into the hands of youths, and someone who sees themselves as our hero's mentor...

It's about a girl from a small island who wants to become an astronaut. Great series which follows several years of her life from the mid 1990's and into the 21st century.

Moroboshi no Hikari - Movie - a very moody one, so you need to pick the time you watch it very carefully. Stars the lead actress from Shomuni, but don't dare think this is a comedy. It's about a woman moving to a small town to cope with the strange suicide of her husband.

Nodame Cantabile 11 episodes, plus a preview special and a SMAP x SMAP special see the manga description. Great live action show!

Manga

After long reflection I have gotten out of the manga game.

An essay on Anime and my own personal collection. (Yeah, I talk to much, even when I type ^_^)

My name is Chris Reed. I used to have two jobs: producing and recording music, and helping import television product (and the occasional direct-to-video release or movie) into the U.S. I guess I'm actually retired from television these days as I work as a musician full time, but my television connections have sent me to Japan a few times, most recently this past winter to negotiate a television series that is soon coming to video (I'm contractually forbidden from discussing details  - sorry. It's up there on the list though).

I have avoided posting my list for a very long time now. One reason is that it's so damned big (or is it that I'm so damned lazy?   :-p). I consider myself a casual collector despite my connections. Another is that for the most part I'm not interested in trades (there are exceptions - see section one above). Usually when people find out what I do for a living, they want me to get things for them for free and even I don't get them for free. I can't tell you the number of people who have asked me to get them copies of programming that is readily available in the U.S., let alone in Japan. A third is that I'm NOT a distributor and have no interest in becoming one. Despite the fact that I work in this business I love fansubs but have no real desire to do them myself. And yes, I have some hard to find stuff and some fansubs that are better than commercial releases. I'm very picky about what I want and have discovered over time that the things I don't have (but want) most people don't have.

But by the same token, those of you who have interacted with me over the years do know about what I have access to, and have been prodding me to come clean about what I have  - and to help make the trades I actually AM interested in go smoother. This update was done April 10, 2013.

How did I get all this stuff? Well, when I look at it the list doesn't seem so big (but when I look at my shelves....). To be fair, I've consolidated titles as opposed to most people who post their lists who like to put down each tape or LD or DVD they own. There are lots of people who have more than I do, and have titles I don't. What's worked for me is luck, right place at the right time, and a few connections most people don't have. Yes, my wife complains about how much space it takes up in the house. She's very wise and it's my good luck that she puts up with me.

I've been around animation my whole life. I come from a show-biz family, although you've probably never heard of any of us. My Grandfather was a Dixie-land musician signed to Capitol Records. My grandmother rode with the 101 Wild West show and worked for Al Capone. My mom is an animator who has worked on The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Garfield, Bobby's World, the early M & M commercials and did some Disney work (she sits on the board of directors for Women in Animation). My father was a cellist. My brother produces computer animation. I have a cousin who works for the Old Globe Theater and another at Industrial Light and Magic . Of course, I can't draw worth a damn so I worked in television for 13 years, 4 of those years directly involving Anime. I also front a rock band in San Francisco called the Anime Raiders and run my own music production house.

There will be a few titles that I don't have that you'll ask yourself "why not?". Despite my best efforts I do not consider myself an encyclopedia of series, and no one should. On my last trip to Japan no one I met with at 6 animation studios even knew what "Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne" was - and all the major American fansubbers carry it. And there's some I've just never gotten around to. Rose of Versailles is one, although now that I own it I can change that.

Unless notated, when I list a title I have the ENTIRE SERIES  - Including OAV's and Movies, at least through this current update (I hate for things to be incomplete). If I separated out per DVD or per tape this thing would go on forever. For example, just Kodomo no Omocha alone is 27 tapes (24 DVDs).  Sailor Moon is 56 tapes. Minky Momo is 24 DVDs with 6 episodes each, which would translate to 36 2-hour tapes. Yawara is 34 tapes. You get the idea. That's 4 lines instead of  141.

I'd rather give you 1 line for each title instead of a multitude. If I didn't you'd still be waiting for the download to finish. None of my titles are dubbed into English  - I avoid those like the plague (don't EVEN get me started  ^_^). None of my son's Pocket Monster or Digamon tapes or DVDs are on the list ^_^

All that said, I instead put a count of the total number of episodes, OAVs, movies, etc. so that you have an idea of how much is involved. By my count I have over 4,000 individual episodes/OAVs/movies I can pull from my shelves to watch at any time, which is why I didn't break them out.

I've put a few comments about the titles I have from time to time. I'll admit some of them I haven't watched. I'm a terrible Otaku  - it would take 3 years straight to watch everything. I also tend to shy away from Hentai (although I have a few) because it makes for uncomfortable situations with my kids, who are still too young. I especially love Shoujo and Mahou Anime, but tend to stay away from Mecha unless it's done really well, like Escaflowne. I'm also not much of a Horror fan, although 3X3 Eyes and Vampire Princess Miyu are exceptions.

For me it's always the story, followed by the quality of animation. My favorite to this day is still Maison Ikkoku  - there's not a thing you could do to that story to improve upon it. Love Hina is a recent favorite, and Kimagure Orange Road has a special place in my heart. So does Project A-ko, as I like parody. Keep all that in mind if you're going to offer a trade unsolicited.
