the blog is gone for now. in its place it this

For my friends:

Dave and Nica

If you click on the above link you'll be treated to a new song from Chris Reed and the Anime Raiders called "Dave and Nica" (imagine that). A few years back a man I've considered my closest and best friend got married. Even before the ceremony I started writing this song, and I had it finished a few weeks after. I was so glad to see my friend so happy that I decided to gift this song. I almost never gift a song, so I hope you can see how special that idea is to me.

The song is a celebration of life, of happiness, and an acknowledgement of growth that too many take for granted. I moved away from Los Angeles a long time ago now, and we're not as close as we once were. But I wouldn't be here today if not for my friendship with Dave, and I don't think I ever said thank you.

So thanks.

When we were younger – the kind ones never got the girl

Third string clarinet – lived in his own world

We riffed on Star Trek – geeks before there was the word

D&D on Sundays – not a care in the world

The Clarinetist simply isn’t cool - But she loves him anyway

The Clarinetist knows he’s not a fool – you underestimate

We were different – we were proud to be so odd

Challenged our elders – and shook our fists at god

As we got older – I began to get the girls

Then things got different – we traveled different worlds

The Clarinetist simply isn’t cool - But she loves him anyway

The Clarinetist knows he’s not a fool –

He’ll work it out in his own way

Don’t pity him – he’s got his own way

I don’t worry – he’ll find his own way

He’ll get by in his own way

When Dave met Nica – I wasn’t there – It’s not his way to justify

But I know he loves her – I’ve seen her smile in his eyes

Although I wasn’t there, there is one thing I know – She loves the friend I’ve always known

Now that we’re older – the kind ones are the only ones who’ve grown

The Clarinetist simply isn’t cool – But she loves him anyway

The Clarinetist shows he’s not a fool – he planned for the long view….
